Palpatine's Pants!

By knasserII, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Hi all,

I'm trying to make my Star Wars setting as realistic and immersive as possible and I run into a problem that I don't have equivalents to real world oaths and curses for when characters are angry, upset, shocked, etc.

Obviously there are some vulgarities that I can just copy across, notably "f__k". But most are religious or otherwise specific to real world cultures and I feel it detracts from the setting to include them. "God Dammit!" is going to sound false in a setting with no primary deity, "Jesus" and "Christ" and "Bloody Hell" are obviously no-go's.

Does anyone have any suitable expletives for the Star Wars settings. What exactly does a Trandoshan shout when they drop a hydrospanner on their foot? What words does a scoundrel use on Mos Eisley that a Princess from Alderran never would?

Humorous or serious, all suggestions welcome. I think this would be really useful and it doesn't only have to be expletives. Any figures of speech or common expressions will help enrich the game. At present all I have is "May the Force be with you," as a rough analogue of In sha'Allah. What have you got?

Actually, there has to be the concept of Hell in Canon, at least. Han is having an appointment there with the Hoth deck officer, I believe.

A droid might blaspheme it's Maker, others a Creator or even someone called God or a local deity. Just search for "god" on wookieepedia, you'll get loads of results.

A devotee to an ancient religion could exclaim "F... the Force!" - kind of an alliteration.

For Force's Sake? :D

Scruffy looking Nerf Herder equivalents, dunno, here's a few:

thick as a Tauntaun's Hide (unintelligent),

as ugly as a Hutt,

lower than a sarlacc's arse (really underhanded actions),

as sick as a flea (or SW equivalent) in a sandperson's jockstrap....

red in the face as a Sith's Saber (guilty looking)

faster than UTINNI!!!

My throat's as dry as a Jawa's robes...

Its canon, but perhaps not everyone favorite, but Poodoo is in the PT, so I guess you can use "Nerf Poodoo".

:D

I find Huttese to be the best language to curse in.

If you don't mind swears from the Legends books, let's see what I can remember...

Sithspawn, sithspit, kriffing, Hutt slime, skrag, stang, Emperor's Black Bones (this one only works after the Battle of Endor), blast it, bantha breath, and where in the nine Corellian hells am I?

Luke says "blast!" like you might say 'dammit'.

"Kark" is a Huttese curse

Mando's have a nice spread of word to describe things, and to also curse with.

Here's the wiki page for you to scroll over

Wonderful! Thank you! (And thanks to others also). This is exactly the sort of thing I wanted. Phrases or words I could imagine a human saying without it sounding too silly. I especially like the insults: "Cantina Rat", "Gravel maggot" and "Skidcrust". That last one especially has a very evocative unpleasantness to it. I can most definitely see some villain in my game referring to a PC as some "worthless skidcrust". :D
