What happens? I think the Investigator automatically escapes without any die rolling.

+1 Awareness doesn't mean automatic success, still need to roll if you want to Evade (or could just fight it for the trophy).

The only monsters that allow you not to encounter them (unless you wish to do so) are Elusive monsters. Chthonians are not Elusive, so, as Dam said you have to roll the Evade
