Dash doesn't "Numb" the pain

By JamieSpace, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So I have been tinkering with a Dash/ A wing ace list but got a feeling it doesn't hit where it hurts so I have the following using our good pal Ten Numb

Dash Rendar — YT-2400 36

Push the Limit 3

Heavy Laser Cannon 7

Kyle Katarn 3

Engine Upgrade 4

Outrider 5

Ship Total: 58

Ten Numb — B-Wing 31

Veteran Instincts 1

Fire-Control System 2

"Mangler" Cannon 4

Jan Ors 2

B-Wing/E2 1

Ship Total: 41

Obvious synergy with mangler and Ten. You also have jan to change the free focus to an evade on dash if it's needed plus on Ten if he is in a spot of trouble. VI to make him ps10 and a interceptor hunter with his barrel roll. His crit laughs at autothrusters and stealth device

What would you change?

I feel Ten is a wee bit pricey for what he does, and it will be difficult for a b-wing to keep close to Dash (if not impossible). Nonetheless, Ten can benefit from Jan so I think its worthwhile trying it out. Good luck!

I think the 1-3 on Jan will trigger a few times if needed for Dash but it's mostly for Ten to stay in the game. Could try to squeeze a bandit in but will see how this goes.

Got one point left, could drop FCS for AS?

I vote stick with the FCS. It'll free Ten up to use his actions defensively, which I think he'll need in order to stay alive. The initiative bid might even help him dodge a few extra arcs.

Otherwise it looks pretty amusing. Not personally a huge fan of PTL on the YT-2400, but the BR+Boost should make it hard even for INTs to consistently get inside that donut.

Like blade said, I feel that ten can be over priced for what he does. Great against soontir and other imperials, not very good when it's just 1 sheild that is lost and then regained due to r2d2 or the like, especially when he is shooting first.

Perhaps throw in farlander?

Keyan Farlander — B-Wing 29

Opportunist 4

Heavy Laser Cannon 7

Jan Ors 2

B-Wing/E2 1

Ship Total: 43

Dash Rendar — YT-2400 36

Push the Limit 3

Heavy Laser Cannon 7

Nien Nunb 1

Engine Upgrade 4

Outrider 5

Ship Total: 56

Still 99 points, both are PS7 so can choose who to move / shoot with first, though usually dash to strip tokens. Otherwise could drop opportunist to ptl to change nien back to Kyle.

Ptl on farlander would be good, tl and focus to evade, good chance of a high damage roll.

Hmm I do agree he is pricey but his PS is very useful to dodge a few arcs.

How about Lando crew, it's s gamble but can pay off with evade and focus?

I'd stick with the original list and see how it does. I also prefer the reliability of Jan over Lando, particularly with only 1 agility...

Out of all 64 possible results from rolling 2 dice for Lando's ability

9 are tokenless

12 yield exactly 1 Focus

18 yield exactly 1 Evade

4 yield 2 Focii

12 yield 1 Focus and 1 Evade

9 yield 2 Evades

The 9/64 chance of losing your action is outweighed by the 25/64 chance of essentially getting the double-tap, so if you have Lando equipped, you should use him.

However, with PtL or Experimental Interface, he's actively worth the purchase.

So I finally ran the following last night:

Dash Rendar — YT-2400 36
Push the Limit 3
Heavy Laser Cannon 7
Kyle Katarn 3
Engine Upgrade 4
Outrider 5
Ship Total: 58

Ten Numb — B-Wing 31
Veteran Instincts 1
Fire-Control System 2
"Mangler" Cannon 4
Lando 3
B-Wing/E2 1
Ship Total: 42

It didnt go so great as I totally messed up Dash's initially movement and proceeded to roll consistent blanks on both sets of dice. Needless to say a mini swarm of Zs punished me when I was close to the edge and obviously had to hard 1

How do you best setup dash against a swarm, Slow roll it then burn it past them?

Im thinking of swapping the HLC on dash to a mangler then using a HLC on Keyan. Might help me get used to Dash until im confident I can keep people out the range 1 hole. Or a couple of naked Bs with Super dash to get some heat off him!

Any advice on flying the super dash?

Super Dash is easy. Use the asteroids and debris to your advantage. Make the sucker as tight as possible and fly into it. Dare them to come and chase you into it. Just make sure you can boost or barrel roll off the asteroid when you land on it. Getting blocked is about the worse case scenario. Don't be afraid to completely disengage and come for another pass. Never, ever joust. You'll get blocked and die. I also try not to get pointed at an edge like you said you did. You can either get ion'd off the board or be forced into 1 maneuver making you a sitting duck.
