New player looking for help and ideas!

By NiousDT, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hello all!

I decided to go for imperial!

Open to suggestions on buying more models but this is what I have atm.

4 Tie Fighters

2 Tie Interceptors

1 Tie Advanced

1 Tie Phantom

1 Slave 1

Just wondering if the lovely community could suggest some builds with what I have and what upgrades to go with what :)

Not looking for tournaments yet but my local shop hosts it's own thing and I wanna be competitive. Seems like turrets are my main downfall so far :/

Any ideas I'd be grateful

Thanks in advance!

How about a Firespray / TIE mini-swarm? Use the Bounty Hunter to Ion and give out Stress. Howl + swarm can go after turrets.

Bounty Hunter (33)
Ion Cannon (3)
Rebel Captive (3)
"Howlrunner" (18)
Determination (1)
Stealth Device (3)
Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13)
Total: 100

SRC has a good list there, Firespray are pretty tanky. For a little different flavor you could switch out the fire spray for an Interceptor. At the MN regionals there was a Soontir Fell + 5 Obsidian squadron list. You could do similar by beefing a TIE to Howlrunner or dark curse or who ever you like.

Really just get out and play though. That's what it's all about.

Playing against turrets with what you have there, you want some numbers. Like a Fel or Vader + TIEs would work well. Or 2 Interceptors and 4 TIE

Last game I played I used an echo swarm and was lucky enough to get the damage out early before all my ties got destroyed.

Even though they changed the rules a bit I think the phantom is an absolute beast, the amount of dice it can throw out either way is

Just have to be careful flying into peoples arcs :) haha

Thanks for the advice

Also what do you guys think of a decimator?

Decimator is pretty awesome

Looking at those models one needs to ask:

Is that an Imperial Aces box for the Interceptors or two Expansion packs?

Are those four TIE Fighters from two Core Sets, or does it include Expansion sets?

These are important because they tell us what pilots and upgrades you should physically have available. Howlrunner and Backstabber are TIE Expansion only pilot while Fel is only found in the Interceptor Expansion. If you've got Imperial Aces then you lack access to the PS 1 and PD3 Interceptors.

Yes me and my friend bought a starter and separated them I went imperial and he rebels.

Also it is the aces pack, your right!

Be a good idea to invest in some separate ones then I'm guessing?

The TIE Fighter and Interceptor Expansions are very good ideas unless you can get the pilot cards and corresponding base tokens from somewhere else. Now going to 5 Fighters and 3 Interceptors isn't all bad but you do have this ships and dials and I'm totally impressed with the upgrades but some of those pilots you'll want. If you know someone with multiple expansions of those two ships you may be able to get the unique pilots & tiles from their second set.

Looking at your resources most of the lists I'd come up with would basically have two elements although those may vary and can mix and match. The basic "elements" I see are the T/F Mini-swarm, Interceptor(s), Named Phantom, Firespray. Right now Vader might make an appearance but I'm not too sure about him unless I knew what upgrades were available.

So first I would look at taking:

Krassis Trelix:

-HLC

-Recon Specialist

To add to that I would say either:

Mauler Mithel + 3xAcademies

OR

Night Beast

-Stealth Device

Dark Curse

-Stealth Device

Backstabber

Dark Curse with Stealth Device can be a pain to remove from the board. Night Beast can also be hard to kill, but you have to worry about getting in green actions without bumping. Backstabber for the cheap flanker.

Edit: I forgot Howlrunner isn't in the core set. I would strongly suggest if you really like Empire, especially TIEs, get the expansion. 5 TIEs is a good number for a miniswarm to run with other things like the shuttle and Interceptor/Phantom.
