Future Vader: tie engine and ptl

By GreenSpeed, in X-Wing

So if the tie engine upgrade does turn all banks into green maneuvers, the tie advanced gains another 4 greens bringing it up to 8 in total. With such a dial do you guys feel like putting ptl on vader to give him three actions a turn along with the advanced targeting computer a worth while investment?

This could also be asked of any of the other named advanced pilots who can take an ept. Focus/evade with AC, FCS or ATC could be a really good combo on them

Short answer, No.

More likely it'd turn turns white than banks green. Then it'd target the ship it comes with, the TIE bomber and the one TIE series fighter that could do with help. The rest of the TIE series are doing just fine.

I think the problem is they are both titles, so can't have the TiE Adv title (so no ATC) and the Twin Ion Engine.

The Spanish spoilers I'm fairly sure confirmed it as a modification.

Wether Title or Modification - there are far more bedder choices for the Advance. In case of Title, the new Sensor beauty is a far bedder choice. And for the modification - Engine is a much bedder option! Also PTL is very bad on Vader, since he get's 2 Actions without Stress - a third action isn't so good in that case - thats overconfident!

Taking the engine upgrade on Vader means no Engine Upgrade. I'm way more for EU in most lists.

I agree that the third action is typically going to be wasted. I guess you can focus/TL/Evade or drop the TL for barrel roll when you've already got a TL but that's not that special, I think.

Juno would be a better platform for PTL since she already has 1 and 2 speed green banks. But in all honesty, it's the green TURNs on the A wing and Interceptor that make it such a good PTL platform. Without those, you're really pigeon holed into what maneuver you select. Typically there is only 1 direction for you to go, and if you don't have the turn, you're either doing the bank or a straight. And if you're in a rock field, you're only going to be doing one of those two. But with the turn, you can turn and BR and basically be where you started, or you can go straight and boost and be at R3 of your original position. Quite a bit of possibilities with adding the green turn.

I agree with Khyros. It'll be the non Vader advanceds that'll get some value from PTL, but it won't play the same as A Wings and Interceptors. However, it'll still be good, imo. The same way that it can be good on IG88.

I think Engine Upgrade and Predator are going to be the top choices for Vader. Predator gets him re-rolls so he doesn't have to spend his target lock (keeping it for Advanced targeting computer) and engine upgrade lets him pull off Interceptor level arc dodging without taking stress.

If the new Twin Ion Engine works as we think, then I'd consider it for Vader. It's a 3-point savings over Engine Upgrade, and helps the Advanced with its truly miserable selection of green moves. Against things like Rebel Captive and Tactician, it's worth considering as a way to ensure Vader can still use his pilot ability.

PTL is a bigger question. It would let Vader do Focus/Evade/TL, but he's not really going to be spending those locks. Once Target Lock has been established, he's not usually going to need to do three actions per turn. Predator may offer a better value there.

I do have to wonder what a Twin Ion Engine Engine upgrade would be intended to represent...

Will it work with Stay on Target? Seems like a decent choice(finally).

Stay On Target always treats your maneuver as a red maneuver. Even if this changed your banks to greens, you would still treat it as red if using that card.

I think the complete card title in the spanish spoiler was something like "Twin Ion Engine Mark II".

Not overconfident.. it's called fun, when your opponents says.. you cant do that... and you say.. Vader has 2 actions.. PtL adds one more.. and they start sobbing quietly.. hehehe

I did that build with a test shot with Vader and Kenkirk.. we like to call him Richard Vader when we PtL him.. haha

This would make more sense.

I was attempting to poke some fun at the thread title (TIE Engine).

@OP

I really like the idea of having a 3 action Vader for 34 points. If the TIE MKII provides a green turn.

Hire 2 Bounty Hunters and here you go.
