Wow. The card sleeves are horrible.

By ibsh, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I picked up a few packs of sleeves just to give my deployment and command cards extra protection, since I've come to love this game. I am staggered at how crappy they are. I understand the need for a generic size, but the fit leaves roughly 2mm spare on every side of the card, so you can't really hold them by the edges. Worse is the extremely glossy finish, which removes all friction, making the cards much harder to handle and terrible to shuffle.

Rant over. I am at least not intending to play competitively, so I can just put these sleeves in a drawer and forget about this disappointment.

The green FFG ones? I've not had those gaps at all.

All sleeves are very slippery and difficult to handle/shuffle when new. They ultimately become fine, and the air leaves them, meaning the stack nicely too.

You don't do a ton of shuffling in Imperial Assault anyhow...

Do you have the right size? The green ones are a really snug fit and the yellow ones are fine for me

Imperial Assault has the two card sizes:

"Standard American" which is 57x89mm - the green FFG card sleeves

and

"Mini American" which is 41x63mm - the yellow FFG sleeves

Standard sleeves are 63.5x88mm

So it sounds like you've put them in standard size sleeves, hence the gaps? But also looking at the measurements above there's no way you have 2mm gap on every side...

Yeah, those are the ones I picked up. Perhaps it's more like >1mm on every side. And it hadn't occurred to me that they might mellow with age, perhaps that's the answer rather than jumping to conclusions.

I use FFG sleeves for a number of games, and I've always found them to be superb. You do need to give them some time to "weather" though. I always consider my money to be well-spent when I buy new FFG sleeves for my games.

Dragon Shield are still probably the best sleeves around.

I have mine in the cool Star Wars art sleeves. Those sleeves are too big for IA cards. Which is dumb.

I had bought some FFG card sleeves (green packs) that turned out to be too narrow for X-Wing cards, but fit the IA cards perfectly.

Why would they use two different sizes? Weird.

I've always found FFG sleeves to be great. Never had any issues with them and buy them for every game I own. The color coded sizes make it easy to get the right sleeves. Just wish they made them for IA and Descent Hero cards...

Xwing uses the gray sleeves for the large cards, which fit perfect. Both use yellow sleeves for the small cards. IA followed the Descent line with the green sized cards.
