XXB - Wedge Biggs Keyan -tournament list?

By Jedu, in X-Wing Squad Lists

What would you say about this squadron:

100 pts

Keyan Farlander

  • push the limit
  • fire control system
  • B-wing/E2 mod
  • Jan Ors

Wedge Antilles

  • predator
  • flechette torps

Biggs Darklighter

  • R2-D2

PTL with FCS gives Keyan practically 4 actions per round – focus turned into evade by Jan, barrel roll/another focus for defense with BTL, stress from PTL turning into attack focus from Keyan’s ability and constant target locks from FCS

I wonder if it would be better to give R2D2 to Wedge instead of Biggs – Biggs is going to die eventually, so maybe it’ll help survive Wedge. Jan will boost Biggs with evades anyway, so he should survive longer. Flechette torps on Wedge should help encountering phantoms.

What do you think? Is this build capable of reaching some level in tournaments?

Firstly, the CONs

Putting R2-D2 on Biggs isn't a great idea.

You need to survive a full round of combat for it to get any use, and have to survive 2 for it to be better than the cheaper Hull Upgrade.

Secondly, you put a LOT of damage on Wedge, and opt to put Flechettes on him, rather than the superior Astromech options.

I would actually consider demoting Wedge to Luke, and trading those Flechettes for R5-P9. You can keep Predator that way, and gain a lot more damage over the course of the game 'cause Luke with Regeneration is incredibly difficult to kill!

He's even harder to kill if you've picked up Lone Wolf, which is almost as good as Predator on offense anyway.

PTL Farlander with FCS is a bit of a hard-sell to me, as you leave yourself with only Barrel-Roll and Jan Ors Evade as your viable actions. FCS is useless if you're target-locking anyway, y'see.

For one point more, you can pick up Advanced Sensors, which is AMAZING on the build you've otherwise picked up.

Secondly, the PROs

Jan Ors is a great addition to any B-Wing

Jan Ors is a great addition to any list with Biggs

Biggs works great with B-Wings

Farlander Hurts, like, a lot.

Thirdly, my official "Take" on your list idea:

Biggs Darklighter

+ Hull Upgrade or R7 Astromech

28 or 27, respectively

Luke Skywalker

+ Predator

+ R5-P9

34 Points

Keyan Farlander

+ PTL

+ Advanced Sensors

+ B-Wing/E2

+ Jan Ors

38 Points

100 or 99 points, depending on Biggs' upgrade.

Fourthly, a link to an older thread of mine, with a vaguely similar fleet idea

Clickety!

Thanks a lot for your advice! Luke with R5-P9 and lone wolf really looks like a hard nut to bite. Also, yesterday I noticed how useful advanced sensors can be, especially on any barellrolling craft. If I would like to go more into offense, I would swap Farlander's PTL for stay on target and trade Biggs for a "naked" Wedge - but all in all I don't think it's the greatest idea of all times. Seems more like a fun list.

I've always felt R2D2 is better than R5P9 but there is a difference of one point (which can matter sometimes).

Lone wolf on Luke is fantastic. I've flown Luke with it quite a bit (along with the galaxy-saving droid and engine upgrade) and he has never disapointed (although VI whisper kinda hard counters him unfortunately)

I don't think flying wedge naked is a good idea, generally. Predator or Push the limit +R2 astro or even Opportunist alongside VI Wes are worthwhile on him thanks to his ability to make damage stick. That means he's a high priority target though, so he either needs Biggs or other wingmates with high firepower (like HLC b-wings or x-wings with Opportunist that includes VI Wes)

An old wisdom of the game:

Sort your fleet by the Importance of Kill (how expensive your ships are, and how much they add to your threat level)

Sort your fleet by the Difficulty of Kill (how much effort is required to remove the ship)

The first list and the second list should be identical, or your opponent has a targeting advantage. (Say, they can safely ignore a ship that is weak and tough to kill, or can cripple your fleet by killing your high-damage low-defense ship)
