DIY movement templates

By StarWarsDad1138, in X-Wing

A question to all you DIY'ers... anyone have a file with the correct dimensions/measurements for movement templates, range ruler and/or bomb tokens? I'm looking about having some done up for an event, but see no need to reinvent the wheel if the work has been done (I'm sure it has) and someone is willing to share the fruits of their labors (the sticking point).

Here is the information I was given for the movement templates.

All distances are in mm.

Forward templates:

Each '1' is 40 mm, the same length as the side of the small ship plastic base.

Fwd1 = 40

Fwd2 = 80

Fwd3 = 120

Fwd4 = 160

Fwd5 = 200

Hard turn templates:

Turn # - Inside radius - Outside radius:

1 - 25 - 45

2 - 53 - 73

3 - 80 - 100

Bank turn templates:

Bank # - Inside radius - Outside radius:

1 - 70 - 90

2 - 120 - 140

3 - 170 - 190

I haven't had anyone directly challenge these measures, but I did exchange info with one company making acrylic templates available on the market and we disagreed very slightly on two measurements for the hard 1 and hard 2 turns, but I find it minor enough to not care.

Their average radius for the hard turn 1 and 2 gave: 36 and 62, while mine are 35 and 63. I have no idea what their inside and outside radii are for those moves. Everything else was identical.

What triggered this intensive search:

It's easier to just buy an aftermarket set. There's plenty of manufacturers making them now.

Bah but that's no fun

I have a friend who is a machinist, and if I supply the materials, he said he would gladly fashion some templates out of brass for me. I think that would be cool. Acrylic is nice, but brass has an old world charm.

What part of the country are you from? That sounds awesome.

I'm in the center of Canada

Bummer. NW usa (oregon) here. A bit far, and shipping would be expensive. C'est la vie.

How center of Canada, I'm in Sask.... you?

I was in SK for 2 months until last Friday. I saw Kevin Stanfield (the weather guy off the Morning program) in Dragon's Den. That day was my first ever celebrity sighting and the first time I've seen a Tantive in the flesh. I was more excited about the latter admittedly.

Go Riders!
