Die test

Yeah so you can hack the app it's a big leap to claim every single person using it has done so.

But I don't know other people's dice how do I know the ones he's handing over Arnt rigged?

Now me I don't automatically assume people are scum bags, cheats are out there but they are a small pathetic minority that I don't automatically include everyone I meet into.

I use the dice app because it was cheaper than a second dice pack and covered normal dice the rpg dice and now the armada dice its a bargain.

Back at the Atlanta regional, there was this one guy that used the app, and he would shake it to produce his roll.

Every ao often there was a stutter in this shake to check results, followed by more shaking.

The game comes with dice. If you don't want to use them, I'd be more than happy to accept your surrender.

Same goes for dice towers. Can't stand them, though I'm aware the rules are a little more forgiving on them than the dice themselves.

Bad science you have a statistically irrelevant pool of data to base an assumption on let alone to demand no one you face uses it.

Also I'd consider your attitude unsportsmanlike in the extreme.

The dice app is an official product. You have no right to demand a forfeit if someone wants to use it. You do have the right to ask to use it as well.

Which as I said I'm cool with.

So you would not play with someone using a product for the game you are playing? Sounds like you are the one that would forfeit that match then. As a local TO in a small store, I would allow anyone to use an official product from the company of the game that is being played. That is like stopping someone from using Skaven dice in Warhammer because the color green offends you. You can be offended or refuse to play all you want, that is your choice, but you are the one who forfeit.

Same goes for dice towers. Can't stand them, though I'm aware the rules are a little more forgiving on them than the dice themselves.

From my understanding, dice towers are specifically made to take "trick" dice rolling out of the equation and make it more random. If anything, it should be encouraged?

I'm with you on this. I don't understand the position that neither the dice app NOR a dice tower are kosher to use.

If some guy at an official event was acting fishy, it's your fault for not pointing it out and bringing it to the attention of the TO. You can't get upset after the fact and ban all app usage from any potential future opponents, that's just horrible logic.

That's the same thing as saying "I had a bad relationship once, therefore all <insert gender here> are jerks". It makes no sense.

If you see it and say/do nothing you are just as much to blame as the person doing it.

Also, how do you hate on a dice tower? It's specifically designed to make things as random as possible and forego any issues with shady dice rolling.

I just have a personal loathing for the dice in general. But in my casual games, I've been using my custom set

Those are really nice! Shame they are not legal, but for casual play... sign me up.

What he is saying is that he has found the dice that are loaded in his favor and now only uses them. A prime example of why using the same dice should be mandatory.

But just how loaded is the real question. I have rolled each of my 6 greens at least 5000 times with my Dice Roller 3000 to very marginal results. Out of the 6, one was rolling focus about 4% more than expected, and blanks 4% less than expected. There is some margin of error there as well. It is still a 6% chance that this was the result of just chance, which is still a good chance.

But my rig was essentially a spinning dice tower. So the only thing it really tested is that using the ffg dice, a dice tower will give you random results. It did not test how a plop roll method affects the results.... a octahedron is just a bad shape for rolling unless you throw them like craps.

Regarding the results, as should be expected, it was a tight bell curve on everything but my greens which skewed toward below average. I ran the test because I was notorious for cold defense rolls. You have to be pretty frustrated to record that many results in an actual experiment. The results bore out with my greens. So those greens are long gone. Now I'm much more satisfied that my dice roll average. I suppose it is possible that someone could randomly buy dice that skew better than average, but they certainly weren't in the sets I bought. :-)

I just don't like anything that isn't dice to table.

Shapeways. Metal printing is silly expensive so I can't recommend it unless you have more money than sense

Right. But don't you also have the right to ask that both players use the same dice?

And if that's the case, who decides if you use the physical dice, or the app?

Very nice. May I ask why you only have them in metal?

Very nice. May I ask why you only have them in metal?

I've been working on a plastic version, but it's more difficult than it seems. My desk is littered with failed prototypes. The detail level for non-ultra plastics is lower, and dice are pretty small. The texture is a bit off pudding on the green and red plastics.... too grainy and the polishing process does a lot of damage to the features. The metallic plastic is not bad, but it only comes in silver, so it becomes a painting challenge. I'll figure something out eventually, but the main reason is that I primarily made them for myself, and metal is just cool.

That sounds like the liberal argument, "people were shot to death, ban guns!"

The bad things are the "humans" not the object being used!!

Yeah but it's much harder to kill someone with your hands, any one can pull a trigger but most don't have the required strength to choke the life out of someone.

I tried the salt water method on my X-Wing and BattleLore dice yesterday. Everything seemed pretty normal.

[And MAN! That was a lot of salt.]

farbled around for the better part of the evening on this salt water experiment. Things I learned:

1). It takes a lot more salt than I expected to get a die to float.

2). If you have ANY cuts on your hand mixing salt water, it will burn. Burn A lot.

3). If you have salt all over your hands, best not to be snacking on M&M's

4). M&M's do not pair well with Pino Grigio

5). My "lucky" dice don't seem to be any luckier than my unlucky dice.
