What's the best worst thing that's happened to you (or an opponent)?

By Rogue Dakotan, in X-Wing

Like when things just go so wrong it's amazingly hilarious.

At our regionals a few weeks back my Scimitar Squadron Pilot was killed in one shot during the first round of shooting by Xisor.

Hit

Hit
Crit (Direct Hit)

Crit (Direct Hit)

two blank green dice.

XD

Incredible.

In a later match my opponent flew his Y-Wing through a debris field, rolling for damage twice on his way in and out of it. He rolled a crit both times lol.

I tend to laugh and enjoy when these sort of things happen rather than let it bother me. It's the nature of the game and it's fantastic.

Like when a ship rolling 6 green dice get's hit by a 2 dice attack. Stuff like that amuses me whether i'm on the wrong end of it or not.

I have played against a guy who has been working on a specific list with a Firespray. I have watched him accidently fly it off the board, twice, in tournaments.

Once mind-gamed an opponent into flying a fully laden Chewbacca off the field.

5 reds all blank.....twice.

First real game of X-Wing:

1. I fly both Dark Curse and Backstabber (who were trying to flank) into an asteroid. Dark Curse rolls a crit that makes all hard turns red.

2. Backstabber gets shot at long range through an asteroid by a Z-95, rolls 5 blank greens and blows up.

3. Dark Curse later tries to do a hard turn while stressed, I forget about the critical damage. My opponent flies him 5-straight toward the board edge and he flies off next turn because he's still stressed and can't take a hard turn away.

In my early X-wing days the best way to hit my A-wings with Stealth Devices was with a TIE Fighter at Range 3 through an asteroid. My green dice were cursed for those rolls.

As for other funny stuff, at a Regionals I attended a few weeks ago I qualified for top 8. I've never qualified for elimination before, so I did not know that initiative was the tie breaker. So, first elimination game I won the roll and gave the initiative to my opponent because I wanted him to place the first asteroid. No ships were destroyed in the match so he advanced on initiative. Luckily it's a really nice guy and we always have very enjoyable games, so I was not mad at all, I was just glad over a good game. :)

Opponent flies his undamaged decimator onto a rock in front of my TIE swarm. I take his shields and some hull. Next round he only plots a 1 forward and gets blocked on the rock by two TIEs. The other TIEs finish him off. The Decimator never fires a shot.

I had a guy shoot at my 1-hull Bwing with a firespray at range 1 and fail to kill it. He spent a target lock too. I know you're thinking I just had awesome green dice but no. He rolled 0 hits on 8 dice.

In a friendly the other day running BBYY w/ion turrets I rolled either 6 crits unmodified on two 4 dice rolls with the other two being hits against my buddy's firespray.

I once had a 19 point ion Syck ionize a 50+ point RAC off the board because my opponent got greedy.

For me I just consistently roll 3 damage from proximity mines on ships with 3 hull.

So, so many Fels killed at Range 3...

Barrel rolled a 45-point Corran off the board in the final round of a league tournament...

I stopped running b-wings and FCS because of the number of times I rolled 4 blanks...rerolled into 4 blanks. Cost me a lot of games...

Though, one time, I was jousting with a Firespray and 2k'ed to get behind him. Then, after suffering his volley, I ended up rolling a variety of die results that netted me 5 damage, killing his Firespray. Then, I received a Z-95 as a prize =)!!!

Using full health Soontir Fel with Focus and Evade - Autothrusters and Stealth Device equipped- Blanked a Range 1 4-dice attack with a focus on Whisper with only 1 hull remaining.

Whisper returned the shot with 5 natural hits (no focus or TL) while I managed to only roll 1 evade.

Both happened in the same Regional:

1st game vs a Z-ion swarm, I got my 61 pts MegaDash ionized and pointing to the edge: the 1 fwd just put me 2mm from death, then I rolled 2 natural evades on the shot that would have cost me the game, saving my life. I put a 3 turn which ended even closer to the edge, again, then i escaped the trap and eventually won the match.

Game 5 vs Cheebo, the winner will make the cut to top 8, the looser will be out of 16.

2 hulls Dash gets the no-action crit and I just rolled blanks for 3 consecutive turns, then is able to put a single hull Leebo in range. 5 reds (as I ran him with Jan), no modification... 5 blanks!

Leebo fires back with mangler: 1 hit, 2 green blanks, flip the crit:

DIRECT HIT!

Karma strikes again!

The latest was my funniest game of the day, anyway.

Had Backstabber with 2 hull at range 3 behind an asteroid. Opponent had a Y-wing with 1 hull left. The Y-wing had the crit that reduces your primary weapon. Pretty much thought I had the game in the bag. All I had to do was move into range and roll two hits. My Backstabber shoots at him but only rolls 1 hit and the Y-wing evaded that. Y-wing returns fire, why not? Rolls a crit. I had K-turned so I had nothing to modify dice. At range 3 behind an asteroid I am rolling 5 dice. Of course I roll two eyes and 3 blanks. Crazy, ****. Flip the crit....

Direct Hit. -_-

1 red die > all the green dice ever

I've also played a game where my opponent rolled a natural crit in everyone of his attacks. Every. Single. One. I'm pretty sure I pulled 3 out of the 7 direct hits. Boba died with 4 crits flipped, he was basically useless. My SV died with 3 crits and my Syck took a direct hit to die.

Best thing, I essentially two-shotted an IG-2000. Kath + Opportunist out of her butt cannon. 5 hits, 1 crit. IG-88C had 6 hitpoints left. He rolled all blanks.

Actionless B-wing fires Range 3 at token-less Soontir with Hull and Autothrusters. I roll crit, crit, hit. He rolls four focus and pulls two Direct Hits.

In one tournament, my low-health Y-wing was at Range 1 of token-less Han Solo with Gunner. He rolled zero hits on 4 dice four times.

At WV Regionals, I am flying an aggressor. I have 4h1s on it and I killed everything except his Fett near death. I felt really good about winning.

Fett rolls along and surprises me with a hard turn and drops a proxy mine on me. Hit crit crit. Shield gone. Flip the two crits: Direct hit, direct hit.

...

I don't recall how long I sat in silence at the table, gazing at the board. Too long, probably.

Too long.

Yea, similar to the one above me, I rolled crit, crit, crit with an Ion cannon, not once, but twice in a game...which is great, cept for that whole "do 1 damage" and cancel dice part :)

Played a palob and guri list with sensor jammer. I went after guri but sensor jammer was knocking off a hit per attack since I didn't have focus. Attacked with 5 of my 6 ships and was only able to knock off one shield. On my last ship, I rolled double crits from the tie fighter he rolled blanks and both crits were direct hit.

Guri dead.

My worst is the classic cloaked Whisper at range 3 behind an asteroid. Rolled 4 eyes and 2 blanks. My focus was used already because of Gunner. Opponent rolled 3 crits (was crit crit blank but predator reroll resulted in 3rd crit. I think we all know what that 3rd crit was, don't we?

I think the only thing worse than my scenario would have been rolling 6 blanks vs 3 crits before gunner even triggered.

I never went back to check the odds on what happened to me, but I know it was just one of those incredible bad luck moments. Bright side: I actually won that game.

I once flew 4 Tie fighters into Range 1 of s single Z95 and rolled 3 blanks for each one. 12 blanks in a row. I am usually easy going, but that time, some choice words were said!

I have 2

Once, pre thrusters, in epic. I move Fel forward and neglect my actions, thinking no one will shoot.

"What do you mean the corvette has 5 range? Oh, I get 7 dice? Alright, this will be fine. It's only 3 hits, I can dodge at least one"

7 blank evade dice. Fel one shotted on the first turn.

Then, I have killed echo at range 3 with the HWK's main guns.

Rolling 1 evade on 14 dice to lose two Phantoms in two turns.

Best moment would be getting 2 damage on an tie interceptor at range 3 through an asteroid with an a-wing. I'd basically lost anyway, but it was a nice parting shot.

Worst would be playing against an opponent running ruthlessness on his two ships and keeping all my ships in range 1 of each other for the whole match, and I still can't figure out why I did it!

I won't mention the constant all blank green dice, or the perfectly set up shots which do no damage at all.
