I have been told by many that getting one starter doesn't have a 300 point build level. Should I buy two starters, or 1 starter and and extra Star Destroyer?
Advice please?

Hmmmm currently. . . No. Get 1 starter set, 1 dice pack, and 1 each of the expansions. What you would spend on a second core set, get fighter packs.
Sprinkle as needed with more expansions (Nebulon-B, GSD, Assault Frigate imo) and enjoy.
Careful of the first few bites into the game. Even X-Wing players need adjustment to it.
Hmm, 2 starters and the destroyer anyways.
You will then have a crap ton of TIE fighters (yay) and a hefty, sizable rebel fleet for your opponent.
Not to mention the extra dice, maneuver tool, damage deck, and range ruler.
Oh and you will have all the tokens ever. All the cardboard chits!
However, if money is a limiting factor, just the starter set + star destroyer would work.
My group picked up 2 starter sets among the 4 of us, and 2 of each of the wave 1 expansion stuff.
Well, the OP will have that plus more with just 1 core and 1 of every expansion.
He can also buy an extra maneuver tool when it comes out and get a secondary range rollers via third party source
I've only bought one core, and picked up the extra dice seperatly (eBay).
If you are playing at your LGS (eg, bringing your own stuff) I honestly don't think you need extra rulers et al, exception being acrylics if you're into that sort of thing! ![]()
A core set + VSD is a much better deal then a two core sets. Two cores do give you two VSD's, but not all the upgrades you'll get with a core + VSD expansion pack.
seriously, you only need 1 core unless you run into horrible luck with your range ruler
1 core is more than enough
after that, if you want to go imperial I'd actually recommend the GSD (variety, also it's amazing) and 2 fighter packs. That'll be more than enough to get to 300
I would suggest like I did: 1 Core, Extra dice, 2 Gladiators, 1 Victory, 2 fighter packs each side, 2 AFMII, one each corvette and Nebulion.
This will give enough to try a lot of combinations and give you a good start looking towards 400 pt fleets with wave 2.
Thanks. I'm actually going to get this for 4 players. I'm thinking each of us can run our own 150 fleet, 300 per side. So we can all try it at one and learn together. I figured 2 v2
Trying to figure out what to buy to make this happen.
Thanks,

Just get 1 core and 2 of every expansion +dice. That will give you a lot of options to create bigger fleets to go 2v2.
The expansions have new upgrade cards AND cards from the core. Only get the 2nd core if you absolutely must have 6 more TIEs, a second range ruler and another damage deck.
I would still advise against a 2nd core. You get more out of the expansions.
Oh! Don't forget about the extra asteroids, the extra objective cards, and extra X-wings.
For 4 players, 2 core sets might be best. That way, you have 4 rebel ships and 2 imperial ships, and picking up 1 of wave one and using it in a common pool means you have 4 imp ships and 7 reb ships, respectively.
Get a starter. Play with it first then decide if you really want to invest in this game. It can get quite expensive.
Now that you've decided that it's worth the plunge, buy a copy of each expansion for the variety. Get the fighter packs, a Gladiator and an Assault Frigate first to get the most variety. Let's assume that you're playing this as a board game among friends so you'll be buying into each faction.
Now that you've decided that this is THE GAME for you, get the Victory, CR90 and Neb-B expansions and perhaps another fighter pack or two. At this point, decide if you want the option to play this at a competitive level. The current point limit is 300 points and by now, you can easily make a competitive fleet out of what you've got already.
Since the maneuver tool and the dice packs are released separately, I feel that the best reason to get a 2nd starter is if you want to have a lot of ships to prepare for when the game hits the 400 point limit. Even then, this may not be the best choice as buying into Wave 2 will easily bridge that gap.
I can't wait for 600 vs 600. 2 teams of 2, with 300 points per player. It will still all happen on a 6 by 3, (maybe make that a 6x4 table) but it will be so cool!
I wonder how that would effect the playstyles

At 600 points I think the deployment area should be increased to the entire length no just 4' out of 6'. You would need your teammate to use the light and dark side tokens to signify ships per player
Greetings! So far I've got two core sets plus a vsd, gsd, asfmk2 and one each of the fighter packs and this gives each side around 400pts to play with. I usually game with 3 other blokes so works out well. Id recommend two core sets as you'll need two sets of range rulers manouvre tools etc anyway.
If you are even considering buying two starter boxes, then just buy one starter and buy into expansions get one of each
One Starter, one Dice pack, one of each Expansion starting with the Gladiator and Assault Frigate and Fighters.
But he said that this is for 4 players in his group guys.

Your correct? We have 4 players, and I think 2v2 and 150 pts for each player.
I need 300 points to play, and not sure what else I have to buy to get it.

Well a victory with upgrades will be around 100 points, a corvette probably around 55, and a neb close to 70. The tie fighters are cheap and under 10 a pop, while x-wings are close to 15, where 4 of them is 55-60 points.
That should allow for some easy mental math.
Oh and remember that each side needs a 20-40 point admiral!
For new imperial players I recommend tarkin (38pts) and for rebels I recommend Mon Mothma (30 points).
If you buy some wave 1 stuff, the assault frigate will probably run you 110-120 points depending on upgrades (it practically screams for enhanced armorment and electric counter-measures, that's 17 points their) and the Glad seems to clock out around 80 if doing a demolisher smash.
Rebel and Imperial aces add a lot of 10-20 point strike craft, and are fun to theorize lists with them.
Did this help?
I am going to go on a bit of a tangent here.
Run over to FAB's Fleet Generator and enter 300 points and then tell it you have 1 Core set. Then using what you think is good from the advice you have add in one or two more purchases and see what happens.
A lot of posts are saying do what I did, which is fine if you are buying for yourself. If you are buying for ther people the question then changes a bit to not what I should buy, but rather what should I buy to ensure that multiple people can have a game with just my stuff AND won't have my wife looking for a divorce lawyer.
Also, I understand that, some can easily go 4 of everything others have to watch just one of everything. So there is a bit of a maving target in that area.
BTW: Consider two core sets, having 2 range rulers, 2 maneuvre tools and dice are handy. If you plan to go 2v2 all the time then maybe 1 set if OK. But what if you want to go 1v1 for two games at a time?
