Rebel Swarm vs. Rebel Stress

By surly88, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I'm currently thinking about finalizing my list for Regionals. Our team found a pretty cool Chewie & Corran combo which looked really fancy at first. However since we wanted to play it against some stress/ion lists, I looked through some of those lists and ... well ... found them all pretty cool. Sad thing is, I like them more than our original list now :P

I played BBBBZ for quite some time and liked it a lot actually, so I'm already familiar with B-Wings. Removing the Z-95 for some stress and ion shenanigans looks really cool, at least on paper.

So far I'm not sure which list I like most, so far I'm deciding between these three:

#1 - the original list from Worlds

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Tactician (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)

B-Wing/E2 (1)

B-Wing/E2 (1)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
R3-A2 (2)

Total: 100

#2 - small variation

#3 -"the fancy one"

Haven't played them yet (but definately will!), so I'd really like to hear any input on these.

When it comes to matchups, I consider it similar to the original BBBBZ list I already played (at least the first two BBBY lists). Big ship lists should be okay, since these lists pack a lot of firepower, shields and hull. I consider lists with 1 big ship to be the main opponent most of the time, so I think it's nice to have the advantage here. Compared to the BBBBZ list I guess it should be easier to get "the second ship" (to name them: Corran Horn in the typical Dash list, Soontir in the typical Decimator list, etc), since I can stress and ion it.

Tie swarms and elite lists are probably not that great, but especially swarms I don't expect much. Elite lists maybe, but even then I'd say that I can put up a fair fight. A ionized, stressed Interceptor is pretty much left for dead ... I have no idea though, if it's that easy getting to that point

So as mentioned every piece of input would be really appreciated, so woult be awesome if you could share your thoughts! :D

Thanks, cheers ;)

I like #3. Have multiple Ion options is great, as is being able to possibly ionize a large ship in a single turn.

Thanks for the reply - I'll test some of those lists today and tomorrow and will see how it goes.

I just noticed I didn't even put the initial question I had into my last post

BBBBZ is quite a solid list currently, how would you consider the change into a BBBY Stress list? Good? Bad? The main question is probably which matchups you improve and which you weaken by this change ... any ideas?

I'm actually planning on playing a list pretty similar to #3 this weekend. I've never played BBBBZ, but I would think the control lists have a slight advantage when it comes to arc dodgers, since you can have some measure of, well, control over them besides just trying to get them in arc, plus turret(s). Have you thought about putting the BTL-A4 title on your Y-Wing?

I like 3 as well. But I would take the tactician off of Roark. You're not going to get a lot of arc shots with him because of his turret. Maybe give him Intel agent? Maybe put FCS on the other B-Wing?

Would you consider list 1, but with one b-wing sporting an ion cannon instead of the backseat tactician?

Gives you two ion options for controlling large ships and i think its a better balance than 3 tacticians.

I've played with roark, cracken (swarm tactics) and 2 tactician b wings before. Bit of a gimmick, but the idea was cracken would give a b wing a ps12 barrel roll to line up a ps12 tactician shot before the phantom could use advance cloak, but that's less of a problem these days....

Stress Wing is POTENT, but you shouldn't fly it like BBBBZ.

I have used this list a few times, but added the title card to the y wing so it can shoot twice

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Tactician (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)

Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Tactician (2)
B-Wing/E2 (1)

Gold Squadron Pilot (18)
Ion Cannon Turret (5)
R3-A2 (2)

Total: 100

Played my 1st game with the #1 list and went 100:0 against Corran+Chewie, the whole game felt like he didn't really had a chance actually ... once I had Corran stressed and ionized while having no shields whe shook hands. His Chewie was pretty low, same as my Y-Wing, so he would probably have gotten that one though.

Have you thought about putting the BTL-A4 title on your Y-Wing?

I did, but I'm not sure I like it. I definately have to play the list more to have a funded opinion on the title.

One thing I don't like about the title is it's inefficency against arc dodgers.

Good point about the tactician on Roark, right now I'm not sure I even want that HWK in the list. The BBBY list felt really solid yesterday, so I don't know if adding a squishy HWK is the best idea.

So I'll probably test the original list a bit more and see how it goes :)

Absolutely, definately gonna test at least one Ion Cannon instead of the 3rd Tactician.

Hm, would you mind clarifying? At least yesterday it felt like the list would love to get into an early knife-fight with my opponent :D

Sure, watching out for that sweet 2 range shoots is crucial, so you definately have to roll more often instead of focusing, combared to BBBBZ.

if you fly slow and spread your arcs you can deal arch dodges .....

Good point, will try it out, thanks. I'm still stuck to my typical formation flying
