Slave I or Lambda shuttle or devistator?

By Father Lucant, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Have only 3 interceptors, 2 basic ties, 1 defender and 1 advanced. Plan to pick up a phantom. What medium sized craft should be my next purchase?

Meant decimator.

They all 3 play very different from each other. Is there a particular style of play that appeals more to you?

The Decimator is a very solid choice. Some very good Decimator/soontir fel lists are making the rounds right now.

I haven't figured out my play style yet. My first tournament is this weekend.

Decimator is the easiest to learn. Lambda the hardest. Firespray sits in the middle in terms of ease of use. Given the ships you have, all 3 could be useful, so I think it comes down ultimately to personal preference. Decimator is considered by far the most 'competitive'---at least at the moment.

However, given the upgrades you likely have access to, Firespray might be your best choice for now because you don't need to buy anything else to get some value out of it. To run a decimator to its fullest, you kind of need a Lambda (for rebel captive and possibly Vader) and the Millenium Falcon (for engine upgrade).

I agree with blade_mercurial and only want to add a few details:

The Lambda Shuttle comes with most of the upgrades, that it needs. Engine Upgrade is missing, but you have a few playable shuttle variants available.

The Firespray not only comes with a lot of useful upgrades for itself. It comes with a lot of important upgrades for other ships: Stealth Device is mandatory for your Interceptors. Heavy Laser Cannon is almost mandatory for the Tie Defender. Veteran Instincts is mandatory for the Tie Phantom and very useful on the Tie Defender and lots of other ships. Expose and Gunner is useful on the Decimator. Proximity Mine is currently the most reliable bomb upgrade.

The bottom line is: If you can borrow upgrades and/or proxying is allowed in your playgroup, choose whatever you like best. Otherwise you have to buy a Firespray sooner or later and might just buy it now. It's a good ship with a lot of important upgrades.

Thanks everyone.
