Wound/Strain Counters

By Snickett, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Greetings, I just started playing this game recently. Given the constant flux of wounds and strain going up and down, I made a circular counter to keep track of a player's current state. Currently available in two flavors:

I thought I'd share them in case someone else found them useful. I don't know the maximum wound threshold a character can go to, so the numbers cap at 24.

If you'd like a copy, feel free to grab them here:

*EDIT*

Improvements have been made, larger version 2 along with vehicle tracker can be found here:

Very nice!

FYI, it's pretty feasible to go above 24 wounds. Especially for a Wookiee Marauder. I have one currently sitting on 28 (and can quite easily go higher with an additional specialisations).

This is awesome. Nicely done.

Would it be difficult to set the wound counter up as a two wheel system so that you have a wheel for the tens place and a wheel for the ones place? If you did that you could cover any amount of wounds possible.

Also maybe a blank spot next to the counter somewhere to scribble in thresholds.

Bravo Zulu! These are awesome.

I love that a Wookiee can still go down pretty easily by hitting him in the strain department...28+ wounds wont help you much if your strain threshold is still only around 12 or so...

Nice work on the counter though, I was thinking about using the strain/wound tokens from Imperial Assault actually... it's a bit more visual....everyone can see the Soldier is about to go down when there is a stack of wound counters on his character sheet...including the GM.

I definitely like the idea of some kind of visual representation outside of the character sheet. Like tokens, or counters, or something like that.

As the author/creator of this aid, would you mind putting a link to them in the thread named “Compiled Resources List”?

Thanks!

Thanks for the feedback, been working on updating and creating one for vehicles. Here's a (terrible) scan of the updated counters:

  • Dials now go up to 30, had to increase the size of it all to accommodate it.
  • Switched the action/maneuver list to a space to record critical injuries. This probably makes more sense on a tracker like this to have them all in the same place. Let me know if there's interest in including some other information in lieu of this.
  • Added spaces to record thresholds and soak values.

If you put packing tape on the front of it or laminate it, you can use wet-erase markers or grease pencils to record your values:

I'm not sold aesthetically on the vehicle counter, but it works for what it does. Dual dials will accommodate numbers up to 99. I'm still working on making the layout cleaner as well as instruction before releasing downloads into the wild, but let me know if there's some improvements to be made or things to be added.

This made my day. Thank you.

I like this! I'm going to see about printing some out for our group's next session.

O-M-G!!! That is awesome... Now all I need is some ink for my printer as I've caned it with Character & Vehicle Sheets, YT-1300 deck plans (finally come up with a deck plan I like), Vehicle and Starship cheat sheets, and the blank adversary cards *facepalm*

If I still played in person I'd be all over this.

Awesome job Snickett. Also can you guys reply with how you attaching the wheels? whats in the middle holding it? (the gold thing) Also I lack the graphic talent to do it, but I think combining the Starship board with a counter would be awesome. I know my players love the Starship panel. Took mine and had it laminated...being able to incorporate the wheel counters into that would be really neat.

The starship panels like these...

Do you have a link for the new versions? The link still only has the old ones. These are awesome, and players loved them.

That's kind of cool - at least for players. A GM will find themselves quickly out of cards in a battle.

Me, I like using a dry-erase board and making hash marks.

These are fantastic! I currently use half-size clay poker chips, but I might have to switch out to these.

I'd love a FaD version of these ;)

Also, the vehicle counters says Critical Injuries, whereas Critical Hits would be in line with the game terminology.

Love them by the way, just need to print them on thick enough paper/cardboard to do it properly.

How are you laminating them for use with the grease pencils? Are you using just Contact lamination paper you cna buy are your local Mart store? or are you having them laminated at a Print shop?

These look really good! Might have to get some myself...

Very true on the Strain. My commando is at 26 wounds and only 12 strain. But his soak is 8 so it evens out.
