Help For First Game Store Squad

By 13th Duke, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all

Playing at my local game store this weekend in a Spring Kit tournament. This is the first time I've played outside my living room with anyone other than my son, so looking for a bit of help and advice with the squad. I'm not expecting to win or anything, but I want to have fun and fly casual!

I enjoy running Coran Horn with lots of tricks and I have put this together as a start.

AYE Fighters - 100 points

Corran Horn — E-Wing 35
Push the Limit 3
Advanced Sensors 3
R2-D2 4
Engine Upgrade 4
Ship Total: 49
Horton Salm — Y-Wing 25
Blaster Turret 4
R2 Astromech 1
BTL-A4 Y-Wing 0
Ship Total: 30
Gemmer Sojan — A-Wing 22
Chardaan Refit -2
Veteran Instincts 1
A-Wing Test Pilot 0
Ship Total: 21
So I'd like to stick with Coran, and fill up the list with others. The expansions I own are:
  • Core Set
  • E-Wing
  • A-Wing
  • Imperial Aces
  • Tie Fighter
  • Y-Wing
  • Rebel Aces
  • Most Wanted
  • TIE Phantom
  • HWK-290
  • YT-1300 Falcon
Appreciate any thoughts...

Corran works well when coupled with a threat your opponent can't afford to ignore. Based off the models you own I would say this is Chewbacca.

Chewie-Jan Ors, Recon Specialist, MF Title, PTL is 51 points.

You evade with the title, then PTL for a double focus, then assign an evade and a focus using Jan Ors. This allows for 2 damage negated per turn along with a focus for offense

I would switch Horton out for a Goldie with ion cannon and title and swap out gemmer for a green squadron with ptl, VI and proton rockets. I think that fits. Still AYE.

Horton and gemmer are just a little underwhelming.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I like the Chewie switch out, but I wasn't aware with PTL that you could assign two focus tokens to your ship. I thought that you could only perform one type of action per round. So with PTL you could do a Target Lock and a Focus, but not a double focus. So thanks for helping out with that! We only bought the Falcon a few days ago so don't have much experience with flying it, so I think I might leave that one at home but will definitely try that list sometime!

Will have a look at that second AYE list. Haven't had much experience in firing ordinance as I always viewed them as points that good go up in smoke for no benefit, but will have a look and another think.

Thanks again,

Duke

You aren't focusing twice with that chewie. You're getting a second focus token from the recon specialist

Doh! Apologies - I somehow missed the recon specialist in the build!

Thanks,

Duke

So my 11 year old son is heading down to the game store with me tomorrow, where the store owner has said we can play as a team. Going to be great fun, but I needed a list we could play together. Having recently watched Paul Heaver win the 2013 World Championship on Team Covenant's YouTube channel, I decided to go for a XXBB list like the great man himself - so I went to the store and bought a B-Wing Expansion.

My son didn't want to have Biggs, as he wanted to fly the X-Wings but didn't want a big bullseye painted on him! So we juggled things around a bit and came up with this:

Keyan Farlander (29)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Blue Squadron Pilot (22)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Rookie Pilot (21)
R2 Astromech (1)
Rookie Pilot (21)
R7 Astromech (2)
Total: 100
I don't suppose we will do that well in the current meta, and we've probably played less than 10 games between us, but we are just looking to have fun, fly casual and learn about how tournaments work and stuff like that...
I've got our gear packed, our squad sheets printed and we are ready to fly!

Good Luck & Have Fun!
