So, yeah they look pretty much the same. Oh, and before you call me out for being a lore *****...the creators wanted to give a reaSon why the ships that McQuarrie painted and the ones that made it to screen and comics were slightly different. They didn't NEED to do that...maybe they're lore whores too.

The blasters alone are enough to show this is incorrect. The hull geometry and a few other minor issues add to it: the engines with maneuvering vanes are too canted, the whole ship is too "bubbly" or rounded, the canopy is a little small.

@WarTurtle - That's awesome, actually. I love when fictional world makers have this sense of lore and wonder about their universe. J. Michael Straczynski is probably the best, ever, at this factor in his show Babylon 5. However, It's awesome to keep seeing these things in Star Wars: the Victory model was apparently the original concept for the ISD...so why waste these drawings? The R-22 is a prefect example, as to any learned Star Wars fan that ship is absolutely NOT an A-Wing..it just looks like it.

I also had a line of toys when i was younger that actually had some of the concept versions of ships (X-Wing, Y-Wing, Snow Speeder, AT-AT). So a lot of that stuff had different itterations, but they look sufficiently different to not be the same ship.

This is a common misconception. Han did not in fact shoot first. Han shot. That is all. Greedo never got a chance to fire.

Greedy had plenty of time to shoot, his 'finger' was on the trigger the whole time and his gun was pointed right at Solo. He just chose to run his mouth instead of just shooting Han when he first saw him. He's a bounty hunter, as long as the bounty is dead or alive he can legally shoot him, if the Empire recognizes bounties placed by Hutt crime lords. 'Poor' Greedo, he was a crappy bounty hunter who just wouldn't shut up and get the job done. Boba Fett knew when to shut up.

The RZ-1 is just a variant R-22, they are both A-wings. There's at least 8 years between their canon appearances, plenty of time for a redesign. WEG just screwed up because none of their team watched Driods like they were supposed to.

And before anyone says the A-wings were just nicknamed that because their 'real' name was Spearhead, check out the Alpha-3 Nimbus V-wing. Sounds a lot like R-22 Spearhead A-wing doesn't it. Looks like LFL has been actively trying to fix the screw up by WEG for 10 years now.

It's always sad to admit defeat, but I fear you are totally right.

The West End Games Star Wars RPG books were my favorite RPGs back in the 90s, and they basically became the foundation of so much in the EU.

But all stories and backgrounds and lore was basically made up by the writers of those books. When you have to fill a 300 pages book with flavor text to go with cold character and vehicle stats, and there is no official canon about it, I guess you just need to pioneer it and do it yourself.

Probably Lucas never even paid attention to those books, and when he made "Droids" and the prequels, just ignored them totally.

I think the safest bet is to assume everything that wasn't stated aloud by someone in the movies, or directly shown, just didn't happen at all in the current canon.

The A-Wings and B-Wing have just been around for decades before Yavin. The Rebel cell in Yavin just didn't have any of them. Dodonna never designed the A-Wing, and the Verpine never designed the B-Wing.

Well, the old EU is 'Legends' so I guess they will be treats as if they could be true events or they may just have a kernel of truth to them. I would say everything happens that doesn't contradict the movies or the new canon, which I guess includes TCW and Rebels. I just wish th movies didn't contradict themselves! (I'm looking at you ROTJ and prequels!)

Still waiting for Crimson Jack to show up in this game.

And of course the Gunboat. I would love to see those in Rebels, even if they never make it to the table.

Ok, I don't mind the T-65 vs T-70 destinction (didn't know they had an official model for those abortions of an xwing remake). The point I was pushing is the "A-wing" pictured above isn't the standard A-wing model from RoTJ or this game we all play. That is glaringly obvious.

If you want to say it's a different model type in the A-wing ship class that's fine, just like the T-70 is a newer (and much uglier) X-wing.

Calling a craft a T-70 X-wing does not make it a T-65 X-wing.

They are completely different craft.

If it were a variant then it would still be called T-65(*) *= Variant letter

Same goes for the A-wing RZ-1 and R22 are both different craft. They can be both called A-wing, but calling it A-wing does not make it so.

I never said they weren't A-Wings. I said they weren't OUR A-Wings. Also, there were at least 4 ships called "A-Wings", the R22 (BBY), the RZ-1 (ABY), the Aurek starfighter (Galactic Republic Era) and the ETA-5 (Galactic Alliance/Second Galactic Civil War Era)
