My LGS has limited stock right now, and one of the things they have for imperial is a TIE Defender. I've been messing with a squadron builder to see what I can do to make the list work with one and this is what I've come up with.

I had problems keeping Brath put of range of the RGP's, but that was mostly my flying. When it worked, it worked REALLY well. Something I'm planning on practicing with.
Defenders are very solid albeit expensive ships. I think its one that every Imperial player should own but I think just one copy would do in most cases. I like your idea of running it with the 2 Royal Guardsmen,though I worry it might be a little fat at 47 points. I might drop the IC for something else, I realize your giving up a control aspect by doing this.
I don't see the point in using Ion Cannon and Ion MIssiles on the same ship. At least one of them is overkill. For the same points you can get a Heavy Laser Cannon or an Ion Cannon on Rexler+ Autothrusters on your RGPs.
Besides that, the list looks solid.
If I'm running defenders I run the 2 named and nothing else, or 1 delta with an ion and 2 named squints.
