AoR Desperate Allies — interesting printing defect

By bradknowles, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG

Folks,

So, my copy of DA came in the other day, and I found it had an interesting printing defect. One of the pages had been folded over when the signatures were cut, thus leaving me with two pages that were still partially attached.

However, this gave me an interesting insight — the artwork is full-bleed, and so I get to see a bit extra that no one else would normally see, because the edges would have been cut off.

I’m perfectly happy to keep this copy of the book, and not turn it back in to FFG in order to get a different copy that doesn’t have this flaw. Somehow, this makes it seem a slight bit more personal. Of course, I’ll have to take a knife to the fold between the pages, so that I can see the content between them, but I’ll be careful to try to preserve as much of the look as I can.

Ironically, the flaw in question happens near the description for the new “Bad Press Action”. See for yourself at <https://www.dropbox.com/s/wp0qfpjtkali6r4/File%20Jun%2021%2C%202%2008%2050%20PM.jpeg?dl=0>.

I’m trying to include a direct link to the image in this forum, but it’s coming out rotated and much too large on my screen. I’ll share it anyway, just in case it works for you:

Interesting, and thanks for the info!

I'll be getting mine from the FLGS, and will make sure to give it a good page-flip before I take it to the counter (as I always do - no Cheeto-tracks for me! :D)

I have my doubts that they would make you send the old copy back before sending you a new one. But I have no reason to believe this.

my store ran out and forgot to reserve a copy for me, has been demoted to LGS

I'm unable to get to my local store, so waiting for Miniature Marketplace to send it. Unfortunately I ordered it via the, "Just throw it on a random truck as it drives by and it will get there eventually" method.

I happened to order my copy from them, I’m guessing on the same day that they became available, as opposed to being pre-order. My two copies of the Force & Destiny Beginner Boxed Set that were pre-ordered also came around the same time. I hadn’t realized I already had a copy of the boxed set on pre-order, so ….

I have received books with defects from FFG before. If you let Customer Service know, they'll send you a free replacement. Here's the link to their Damaged/Missing Components Form. It's happened at least twice for me, and they've never required me to send the original book back. They have very good customer service.

We get this in the UK more and more these days. It used to be that Royal Mail vans would go by delivering the mail in the morning, then you got Parcel Force and similar who were a bit more lax. Now if you're lucky you get DPD who actually have a logo on their vans and txt you with delivery times. But I've several times had just random people pull up in what is obviously their private car in tone evening, looking like they're on their way home from work and ring my bell to hand me a parcel before wandering off again. Delivery in the UK seems to have gone Peer to Peer.

Well, waddaya know!

Heeding your advice, I gave the copy I bought today a good flip-through in the store, making sure that the bottoms of all the pages looked good. Check, roger-roger.

Then I get home to browse the book, and discover that the tops of many of the pages are stuck together - often three pages stuck at once (or rather, not cut correctly after what I assume was a fold). Unlike yours, the alignment of the pages seems fine, so that's no worry, but I did have to take an x-acto knife and carefully cut the tops of several pages apart.

Just FYI, for those who haven't bought it yet!
