Sharpie Painting!

By Stasy, in Star Wars: Armada

So since I had nobody to play with today, I decided to mess around with some sharpie painting of the squadrons. I really suck at artsy stuff, so the fact I decided to even do this is mind blowing. Really enjoying this. Kind of a good outlet for blowing off steam.

Forgot the rest of them...

Painting TIE anything's is depressing. Hey it's black and more black and more black, on and two tiny little dots for their drives.

Just incase anybody goes about doing this. The only exception is the little extra red you can do for some of the elite pilots. I'm not ready to paint a whole Interceptor red via sharpie just quite yet.

Done it. Only sharpie half at a sitting and let them dry or you end up with pink finger tips and a smudged interceptor.

Got some more shots of the TIE's... IMAG0156.jpg

Can you please take a picture of the sharpies you used. I just got wave one and can't people how people are using sharpies like this. What the heck kind of sharpies are these?!

****!, those A-wings!!

I got the larger pack. Same type, but had a dark grey. I would also recommend a 2 pack of. Silver sharpies and both white and yellow sharpies paint markers.

Or you could grasp the base peg with tweezers.

Finally got to paint more... Busy last two weeks at work. That X Wing paint scheme came to me while watching 300.

When you were doing the Rebel stuff did you paint the models white first? Or just sharpie them right out of the box? I am using this as inspiration for doing mine and so far I have done all my Tie Fighters. I just did them right out of the box because the Grey works on them and they look pretty good. Just curious about the Rebels.

Simple and effective, I like it.

Methods like this will see more colored squadrons making the field in general.

Yeah, I do the whole handpainting thing on each one of my fighters because I love it, but this even the "I hate painting" crowd can get on board with!

Both the Rebels and Imps were painted as is. The only prep I did prior was a razor to any large excess molding spots and some mild/hot water on some of the fighters that were not straight (mostly the TIEs). Should I have had experience with a wash method, I'd consider it. I've seen some that help the Rebels fighters 'pop'.

Really good considering its sharpie work. I bet they look real nice on the table.

I've been thinking of painting my ties. Not sure I'd go this route, but it looks really stellar!

All I did was clean and sharpie them. The only paint used was a thick coat on the nose cone of the x-wings. I do have to say, that Iam tempted to do a few in a brass, red, black & white scheme, much like the old GW deamon engines. That may end up the fate of the B-wings.

I just bought a set of the fine tipped colored sharpies for just this project. I hope to you everyone's pictures for inspiration.

Thanks,

Duncan

Don't forget the dry erase marker to fix any messes. And it let's you experiment.

I missed that part. How does that work? Like a black dry erase marker or what? Now I am confused.

Thanks,

Duncan

Look for the ones you'd use on a white board. They come in all colors. Any color will work, I'd recommend a black/brown/darker color.

Do you use a fine point dry erase marker?

Also, anything else you need to wipe if off after you use the marker? Or will kitchen roll suffice?

Cheers

Also, I've got an updated thread here if you want to get crazy with a few other products. I'd recommend a matte spray to protect the finish.
