First 100pt squad

By zikri040, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi Guys!

First things first, I'd just like to say hello to everybody, and thanks for having me.

I got into this game a couple of days ago and despite being so newly blooded, I'd like to try my hand in an upcoming local tournament just for fun.

Aside from the starter set, I have one of each of the following expansions:

Lambda class shuttle

TIE Interceptor

TIE Phantom

TIE Defender

As you can see, I tend towards the Imperial side if things, just because... Well, the ships look nice.

I'd really appreciate any help and advice experienced hands like yourselves may offer in building a competitive 100 point list with the above, and on any additions that may be necessary.

Thanks in advance!

Here is what I would do.

Vessary (35)

Heavy Laser Canon (7)

Omicron Group Pilot (21)

Title (2)

Vader (3)

Soontir Fel (27)

Predator (3)

The idea being you use the title on the shuttle to help vessery get target locks. If something is hard to kill, you can also Vader it with the shuttle. Soontir might not be as effective without Push the limit(you might get this card at regionals), but still can zip around and has some extra fire power with predator.

If you could get a copy of Veteran Instincts, the phantom would be in play. Hope this helps I relatively new to the game as well, so I am sure someone else can come up with something better.

Imperial Aces would be a great pick up, you really need the cards in it to make the interceptor shine' without buying the starviper for autothrusters

Thanks for the advice guys.

I've decided to grab a copy of Imperial Aces as well, and am readily contemplating on getting the Slave 1 expansion since I am interested in playing Scum.

How would you mess around with the list if I could field a TIE Phantom with Veteran Instincts? I've also heard that the Phantom used to be a lot more popular, but that it's not seeing as much use these days. What's up with that?

Well, back in April there was a FAQ released that changed the decloak rules. This change has largely been considered a 'nerf' and as such, the phantom must therefore be less effective. Some people disagree and continue to use it, but they are probably in the minority (myself included). So if you like the ship and would like to use it, I would suggest you go right ahead. Its still very good.

Although you didn't ask, here's a few different ways to run the phantom; of course I'm sure you'll come up with your own ;)

Sigma w/ enhanced scopes, intelligence agent & stygium particle accelerator = 29 pts. A very effective blocker that can protect itself by cloaking/decloaking to gain an evade token and then using the info from intel agent to block enemy ships (when they are touching it, they cannot shoot it).

Sigma w/ FCS, mara jade & SPA = 32 pts. Try to get the phantom within range 1 of enemies (preferrable out of arcs or even behind) and let Mara Jade put stress on some enemies so they cannot turn around.

Echo w/ advanced sensors, Push the Limit, recon specialist & advanced cloaking device = 43 pts. This requires lots of practice and excellent ability to read opponent's moves. Typically, you want to reveal a green move so you can use advanced sensors & push the limit to have 2 focus (from recon spec) and barrel roll (to avoid firing arcs) or evade (if not possible to avoid) before revealing your dial, then you immediately clear the stress from push the limit when you reveal your green move.

Echo w. Vet. Instincts, FCS, rebel captive & advanced cloaking device = 40 pts. The trick with this version of Echo is to make sure only 1 opponent can shoot echo at a time, so that way he takes little or no damage, and rebel captive forces a stress token on the enemy.

Whisper w/ Vet. Instincts, FCS, gunner & advanced cloaking device = 44 pts. The 'buzzsaw' whisper. Since her ability gives her a free focus if she hits with an attack, this is the best way to ensure she gets that extra focus token. Thanks to FCS, she rarely needs to use a focus token offensively, and so you can take evade most of the time to shrug off damage (unless barrel roll will avoid shots).

As for a list, shuttle + phantom + interceptor is a pretty good combo (subbing in the defender instead of the interceptor or phantom can also work if you are good at getting ideal exchanges for the Defender).

Popular example:

Lambda w/ Vader

Whisper w/ Vet. Instincts, FCS, gunner & ACD

Soontir Fel w/ push the limit

98 pts.

If you get a copy of autothrusters, that brings it up to 100.

With Defender:

Lambda w/ FCS

Vessery w/ heavy laser cannon

Soontir Fel w/ push the limit, royal guard title, target computer & either hull upgrade or stealth device

If you get autothrusters, you can either trade the target computer for it, or drop the hull/stealth for it and change FCS to vader on the shuttle.

Anyway, I think you've made good choices so far, since those are all effective ships, and with a little practice you should have some success. Welcome to the game!

Some variations of the last list could also be.

Lambda (21)

Vessery w/ heavy laser cannon (42)

Soontir Fel w/ push the limit, royal guard title, hull upgrade & shield upgrade (37)

Lambda, vader (24)

Vessery w/ heavy laser cannon (42)

Soontir Fel w/ push the limit, royal guard title, autothrusters & targeting computer (34)

Another list could be:
Soontir Fel
Carnor Jax
Academy Pilot
Academy Pilot

Feel free to add on up to 20 pts total on Jax and Fel, or swap the academy pilots for Mauler Mithel or Night Beast(Dark Curse sort of is a bit like Jax, but not really)

Sorry for the late reply.

Thanks for the advice guys! I'm currently drawing up a shopping list for expansions to get later in the evening :D
