The supposed role of the Decimator is a troop transport. However, the few stats I've seen for it imply that it only holds about 6 passengers plus 4-6 crew. That's a pretty poor transport. The Lambda shuttle, a similarly-sized vehicle, can hold 20-ish troops.
Does it seem reasonable that a Decimator would hold a similar amount? I have an ISB Captain with his personal Decimator about to drop in on my players and say hello. I'd like to have 20-25 stormtroopers accompany him. While I could borrow them from local garrisons and facilities, that doesn't seem in the character of the ISB.
I can use another ship if I must (suggestions welcome), but I really love how sinister the Decimator looks (especially in a custom black/charcoal ISB paint scheme). Can I shoe-horn 25 stormtroopers in one without losing verisimilitude?
VT-49 Decimator as troop transport
The V-49 is really supposed to be an "Evil Millennium Falcon" so yeah, 6 is about all it needs. Now if this specific one is supposed to be an assault transport I see no reason not to add more.
The Sentinel is in the AoR beta and Gold, but the Gold version's weapons look off.
Other options you could stat up include:
Delta class Escort Shuttle (Don't get on it's tail)
Gamma Class Assault Shuttle (for spacetroopers, but whatever, those turbolasers are so light they stat out as medium lasers)
Gamma Class Assault Transport (... sharks with laser cannons on their heads?)
Delta Class Transport (don't believe the wookiee on this one. It's got 2 laser, and 2 ions, that's all, not the 8 and 50 they keep wanting it to have)
Dropship thingy from FU, kinda LAAT looking thing.

Considering that it gives up a great deal of cargo capacity and consumables, and that it is intended to be able to transport a strike team, I would have preferred if it carried 16 passengers (two full squads).
Also, the 4R3 Light Assault Transport is currently capable of doing everything the Decimator advertises itself to do. Since there is absolutely zero official art for this ship, just say that it looks even more sinister than the Decimator (in a "disguised as a humble freighter" sort of way).
I love this ship and used it in my last session. Because of it's high shields, armor, and armaments, I used it for inserting a small elite team into a high risk combat zone.
Edited by kaosoeMaybe you can save me some time and tell me which book the stats are in... so far I have every non beta book except depara te allies (my copy of that book should arrive at my flgs either Wednesday or Thursday)

The page at < http://swrpg.viluppo.net/transportation/starships/> says that the 4R3 is in Dangerous Covenants, on page 67.

I'm thinking that this one could be used as a paratrooper transport. Instead of the Zero-G Spacetroopers, it would deploy stormtroopers (or whatever) with throwaway rocket packs. A sort of rapid response vessel if you will. I would probably stat it down to being nothing more than a flying tin can that can move a little to get its occupants to their destination. If it gets into a fight, it probably won't come home.
Edited by Oden GebhacSo i'm the gm and for the record I hold gm pc's to be a terrible idea (so this is not for MY benefit), but I like my player's characters to outclass the opposition so the bad guys can outnumber the PCs and cinematically it looks like the PCs are good at beating the odds.
Right now they are flying an "modified e9 explorer" (using yt-2400 stats with decreased cargo, increased speed, and long rang sensors... I found a great deck plan for the e9 online and just think it looks cool)... but I was thinking about swapping our the yt-2400 stats for a hwk-1000, or maybe something else one of the PCS is a smuggler pilot/scoundrel/rigger, so I throw in the obligatory space combat every now and again to give that character her moment to shine. Now given that the pcs' ship should be bad ass, fast, and able to carry a reasonable amount of cargo... what ship do you think is best for them
The E9 stats are in one of the books but I don't recall which. I would like to see or know where you got the deck plans. Its one of my favorite looking ships.

Enter the Unknown I believe. It's an one of my favorites as well.

You can click on this image to follow to my photo bucket account, the three immediately older photos (not sure whether that counts as after or before in terms of arrows) are the two decks and the crawl space. These are deck plans that I found online

To me, the desimator fills a fairly precise role in the imperial cog, it's a either a heavily armed petrol ship with a small personal defence force that is designed to be a last resort if breached. or a heavily armed craft designed to carry heavy hitters, such as dark stormtroppers, inquisitors and their personalised task force that wouldn't share a cabin with the main force. Unlike the lander it is dedicated towards the role of being a petrol or assault craft thus seeing these things should be bad news for the party. Considering the alliance and most smuggling rings lack a craft with the clout of one of these.

This is my thought as well; it's for delivering a small squad of "Anti-PCs"; elite Imperial agents that are a counter to the PCs.
Also, there's nothing really saying you as a GM can't have the cargo bay stocked with modular benches and carry a squad of storm troopers with them. Or take a note from the Aliens Drop Ship and have the troopers inside a ground vehicle/hovertruck that's inside the cargo-bay of the Decimator.
I find it interesting that the Decimator is not Restricted despite the text making it sound like this is almost exclusively an Imperial ship.
I waffled, did a lot of hemming and hawing on this, and reviewed the other ships suggested above. My end choice was to modify the Decimator to fit what I wanted it to do within its role description. Wookieepedia isn't exactly a canon source, so the stats on the Decimator there might be incomplete or incorrect. The ship is physically similar in size to the Millenium Falcon, and the Falcon has carried a squad of troops before in some books, without modification. So a purpose-built assault ship should be even more capable.
Wookieepedia listed the small crew and 6 passengers. Well, maybe it's stretching a bit, but I don't equate passenger space with troop accommodations. Therefore, the pure assault version takes out those 6 staterooms and adds trooper bunk space in their place. Thus, my ISB Nemesis has his own troops, 25 stormtroopers (24 plus a sergeant to be exact).
It should be vastly entertaining when this incredibly intimidating individual shows up in his Imperial-design starship, painted in ISB black, with his personal escort of stormtroopers dominating the area on Nar Shaddaa... and eerily thanks them for what they've done recently. The effect wouldn't be quite the same in a modified freighter.
25 stormtroopers take up a -lot- of space... That's 2 reinforced squads or a light platoon. The food, supplies and equipment for that many troops for any reasonable amount of time is going to take up a -lot- of space. As an assault transport, the Decimator could be viable -- though why they wouldn't use something like a 'modernized' LAAT, I have no idea.
As for a reasonable limit, I'd say about half of that would be what I'd consider the maximum. Moving to quad bunks instead of the single staterooms on the Falcon, and it should put the passenger capacity (with gear, etc) at around 10-15.
