Rate my 2 starting squads!

By derDo, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hey guys,

I recently started playing x-wing with some of my friends and after some practice-games, I put together two 100-point-lists made of all the ships i own from

2 Core Sets

1 B-Wing

1 X-Wing

1 Tie-Advanced

In my local community it is pretty common to just print upgrade- and pilot-cards as I did to test the squad before buying.

So these are my 2 squads and I would really appreciate, if some of you could tell my, if they are....let's say solid starter lists.

Rebels:

Biggs Darklighter 25
-R2-F2 3

Wedge Antilles 29

Keyan Farlander 29
-Push The Limit 3
-Advanced Sensors 3
-Heavy Laser Cannon 7
-Veteran Instincts 1

The obvious idea is to leave Biggs in the backrow, probably at range 3 to give him up to 4 defence-dice agains the concentrated fire of several enemies and protecting my dmg-dealers. I thought about R2-D2 while dropping Keyan's VI but, R2-F2 will give Biggs the oppotunity to negate more than 1 hit per round without forcing me to always fly predictable green manouvers.

Keyan (protected by Biggs, probably also keeping distance) will be my main dmg-dealer. I'm a little bit worried about 43 points on one ship, but I dont own that many ships yet and the upgrade-combination seems pretty solid. PTL and AS ensure, that Keyan is in good firing-position and stressed (for the pseudo-focus-action), while the HLC with (perhaps) TL and the pilot-ability should deal pretty devestating dmg even at range 3. I added VI to him to let him shoot before Wedge to prevent possible overdmg, as Keyan seems to be able to take out for example a Tie-Fighter an his own...

Wedge seems to be solid without any upgrades and...well there are no points left without crippling my other ships.

Empire:

Darth Vader 29
TIE/x1 / Adv. Targeting Computer 1
Engine Upgrade 4

Howlrunner 18

Academy Pilot x 4 48

4 TIEs with Howlrunner-support is pretty common, I think. No explaination need...

Darth Vader will be used as flanker with EU for positioning and ATC for the needed firepower preventing him from beeing ignored.

Thank you very much for reading and fly casual

Nobody?

R2-F2 is a horrible card. You are better off with Predator on Wedge or something similar. It takes your action up, so you leave Biggs without any ability to modify his rolls. 1 extra agility die isn't worth it. I am also not a fan of Advanced Sensors + PTL on Keyan. If you Advanced sensor and push, it limits you to white maneuvers only if you don't want to clear your stress. There aren't a lot of white maneuvers on the B-wings dial. Stay on Target is my preference to run on Keyan with Advanced Sensors. You program a move you don't want to do but at the speed you want. Reveal your dial then switch the maneuver to the one you want. Which stresses you. Perfect on Keyan. The advanced sensors lets you barrel roll or TL beforehand too.

You empire list is pretty awesome. Nothing to critic there.

Empire list is great, if you print cards I would reccomend the "rogue squadron" list. I've beaten quite a few top meta builds with it.

Wes Jenson-R3A2, Veteran Instincts

Wedge Antilles-R2 Astro., Opportunist

Luke Skywalker-R2D2, Draw their fire

Wes pulls a token off them and stresses them. Wedge gets 4-5 dice with R2 to clear his stress. Luke pulls crits and regens...Pretty simple list to fly and it throws out a lot of red dice. Also very thematic!

Ok, so Empire is pretty nice that way. Thank you

@Jo Jo

I didn't expect R2-F2 to be so bad. I thought he might be a good choice for making Biggs more durable, as he's tanking hopefully most

of the dmg and leaving the DD-park for the other two. Can u explain to a rookie why you dont follow that route and give him an offensice upgrade?

That Keyan+PTL+AS is obvious. Thanks for that advice. And ToT is great for keeping him stressed!!!!!

@Shirako

I LOVE that list. I'll give it a try as soon as i get my hands on a 3rd X-Wing!!!

Biggs is meant to die. He's basically taking agro away from your more important ships so they can get shots in without seeing return fire. Putting more points into Biggs usually doesn't net you any more utility out of the ship. He just becomes a point sink. At most if you have the droid, (he comes in the Transport) I would run R4-D6. He can help keep Biggs alive 1 more round longer sometimes. Especially with all the heavy hitting weapons like HLCs or Phantoms.

Thanks, I understand!

So my new rebels list is like:

Biggs Darklighter 25

Wedge Antilles 29

Predator 3

Keyan Farlander 29

Veteran Instincts 1

Stay On Target 2

Advanced Sensors 3

Heavy Laser Cannon 7

This should be better!?!?
