Gencon - Tournament, Presales, and other questions

By VaynMaanen, in X-Wing

Hey guys. I'm planning on heading to Gencon, this is my first time and I'm totally stoked!

I'm all signed up for the X Wing tourney, but I'm also hoping to get some merchandise and cool stuff.

Wondering if I'll even be able to get my hands on any presale stuff, if any, or will it all be gone by the time the tourneys done? How has that all worked in the past?

Also any other tips, suggestions, or events I should look out for?

Thanks guys!

In all honesty, who knows? Last year the Day one flight started after 12pm, so there was time for us all to go to the dealer's hall and grab the new stuff from FFG. This year, Day one starts at 10am, the same time as when the dealer's hall opens. If I remember correctly, there was stuff left on the second and third day...but you never know.

A buddy and I have said that we probably won't buy anything this year, as the previous couple of years (besides X-Wing stuff last year) the FFG stuff was in local stores within a few weeks of us getting back. Our FLGS gives us a decent discount and we're supporting the place that we play.

Plus, for what ever reason, the last few years when we get back, folks don't want to play against us if we are using "unreleased" stuff, even in casual games..so why not save some dough.

There are plenty of drop in events. One recommendation is the Battletech pods... Usually a dozen full cockpit simulators networked together. Big lines though... I'll be good and not mention the events I run specifically but you will find a lot of interesting miniature games. Take a walk through the gaming rooms. Most will be quite happy to talk to you.

They've been fairly good about having a lot of early release stuff since the Netrunner release. The line will be really, really, really long though. I know that they gave out tickets one year so you could come back to pick up stuff when the line had died down.
