I get the feeling that Descent is nearing it's end...

By UmarSlobberknocker, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

I know of at least 5 stores within 15-20 minutes of driving, amongst them 2 large book stores, in my area

Oh, my God...I wish it could be that easy for me!

Anyway...I could bet anything that they will release new stuff next year. Dunno if it will be expansions, that would be the best thing in my opinion. :)

personnally, about expansion, i'm not sure we need really more.

Heroes and Monsters boxes are cool, and the more we get the more it will be, and it may last 1 more year at least before it is finished.

The only thing I really want to is a Druid and/or metamorph hero class

Something will be announced soon, don't be afraid. Descent is one of their best game ever, so they will.

But maybe we don't need 3 expansions a year now, maybe only 1 per year, or less is enough.

And whatever, a good game doesn't need more expansions to be good or alive. For example, Drakon hadn't had one for years now.

But for sure, I would love one would come soon. But I don't want this game be like Magic, and the more the times and expansions goes on, the more balance and old stuff is unbalanced.

I need a coop expansion!!!! A "serious" one!!!!! PoD are just like ... appetizers :-)

I hope for more books, like Heirs of Blood, but which use different expansions as well. More boxes almost feel unnessecary, there are a heap of monsters, heroes, classes, cards etc. But new campaigns is allways nice. If more boxed expansions are released I will get them for sure though. ;)

I think different in a matter of monsters. In my opinion, there is room for a lot more. Maybe cause I'm used to D&D and those billion creatures, but anyway FFG could easily double the amount.

there's never enough

it's still missing werewolf for monsters and druid class, at least

...We already have a beautifull Werewolf lieutenant, also a Vampire Count, swamp Hag, Kobold wizard, etc...

Same round base dimension, same plastic colour, same scale. Only Lieutenant card has to be created

These D&D pieces are so compatibles with Descent that i have introduced the "neutral" brown monster from the WoA in my campaign (Cave Bear, Wolf, spiders etc.) A neutral monster automatically engage any target within 2-4 squares, without regards if they are heroes or monsters. This change a bit the progress of an encounter, but i grant you that is very fun.

Heroes enter in a cave, fighting a filthy Merroid... just to awake a sleeping Cave Bear.

I had the game before, and I sold it back

Scale is not really the same, there's not enough figures for some monsters, and on top of that, D&D miniature are really ... ugly. The werewolf in particular is ridiculous

I totally agree: FFG peces are truly at the top against D&D ones. Also the plastic of some of them is very gummy and soft. I only selected a few pieces that are not too ugly or gummy and with a compatible scale. The dark grey duergars from WoA in example, are a good sculpt and small enough to be used. They are perfect for some custom race of the SoN Black Realm

But with some work (changing the base for example), maybe the werewolf from Arkham horror premium figure can do the job

It is really easy to make custom near perfect "plastic like" miniatures.

1) get round descent 1st edition "money" or stacking fighter/troops tokens from TI3

2) cover one side with 0,5mm plasticard

3) select the metal or plastic 25mm miniature you want to "Descentize" and carefully cut the base

4) Mount the mini on the base (plasticard side) and fill gaps on the feet with Milliput, this make the figure like fused in one piece

5) airbrush the mini with a White base

6) select Your preferred colour and airbrush the mini. Red monster are GW Crimson Gore and White are GW Bleached Bone

7) Spray the mini with GW sealing coat.

I have done this for all the Sea of Blood lieutenants, with a beautifull GW Hawk Turquoise, and they seem truly FFG plastic pieces.

what is excatly "plasticard"

And I've got problems with metal miniature, I hate them so much, and it's strange when playing when a figure is heavier than another.

and fiding a plastic werewolf in 28mm scale and about the heigh of a human is near impossible

Plasticard sheet = plastic styrene sheet

This make the surface of the round base smoot and plastic-like.

Reaper has an huge range of 28mm mini, also in the Bones serie they are cast in White plastic, if You hate weight. But Descent is in true 25mm scale and thus i suggest You to check the Ironwindmetals catalog for the olds (but ever goods) Ral Partha pieces.

This werewolf, in example, is truly 25mm, but also very, very old (early '80)

or You may find on e-bay the marvelous, perfect RP Wolfwere by Dennis Myze in true 25mm from the Ravenloft AD&D serie:

Descent V2 is not in 25mm but in real 28mm

and sorry, but thoses werewolves are really ugly ... I've searched the web for years for a good werewolf, and never found one

Have You checked the RP Werewolf line? This Hispo is not so bad:

or You may try the 30mm Mr. Thubbs Mithril, not so detailed but very proportionates

on the scale: 25mm is measured from the feet to the eyes, Descent is 25/26mm scale, reaper and D&D plastic are 28mm "eroic", or a true 30mm scale. They are one full head over Descent pieces. More on scale here:

Edited by fulvio67

but the last one is too big, in descent it would be the scale of a merriod and I want it to be the scale of the "normal" monster

Maybe this is acceptable for your tastes: it is truly 26mm scale and made of resin, i guarantee this because i have it.

I don't use 'proxys' for descent and never will, even if the miniature fits perfectly. I agree that some miniatures you mentioned could be used, mainly those grey ones, as lieutenants. But there wil be no statistic cards for them, anyway.

That's why I have my own boardgame, mixing stuff from some games. I'd say it's more based on D&D than descent, but after I get used to 2nd edition, I'm planning to change some things relative to damage, using a mix od 1st and 2nd edition dice.

Whwn it comes to mix, I usually don't do in the games, I make a new one to use the mixes ;)

I'm not going to uses proxies, i'm going to do my own monster, with card and all

I don't use 'proxys' for descent

All this is not for the use of proxys as substitution of counters or official pieces, nor to change rules, but how to expand the game with some new piece or figure that probably FFG will never release. Also, making all the lieutenant from 1st edition "plastic-like" as i has done is not properly to use proxys, all Descent minis are official.

Probably Rugal want to add a poverfull Werewolf lieutenant in a custom campaign, without change of rules or anithing else. This is not "using a proxy" to me

I've actually been thinking about using substitute miniatures for the familiars, but where are you gonna find a wolf that fits only one space? At least Bones has some options for the Necromancer.

I also love the thought of a shape changing druid class. And Bears.

I forget exactly where, but there was a thread on boardgamegeek where someone had located excellent proxies for most of the familiars.

Maybe we can work on a two hands on this one ?

i've got a good base I think. Do you want ?
