I one-shotted a Victory SD

By Hygric, in Star Wars: Armada

By using a risky gambit and having absolutely amazing luck.

Mirror match Imp vs Imp (Sir, is it still really a training exercise if we are using live rounds?!?). My opponent picked Hyperspace Assault from my objectives, figuring that he could use concentrated fire to crush my list piece-meal. My reserve ship was a Vic-1 with Expanded Launchers (more useful than it sounds, NO-ONE goes anywhere near the front of that thing, great for board-denial).

On about turn three (I think, it was a casual game involving a few drinks) I had the chance to drop the Vic into firing position on my erstwhile opponents flag-ship aiming straight at his exhaust ports. At that stage his flag-ship (Vic 2 with Screed on board) had taken no damage and was not under any other threats while his two Gladiators were in a good attack position so he decided to move one of them first.

He also reasoned that while the damage from my Vic would be heavy (7.25 on average) his full suite of defence tokens would mitigate that to little more than shield damage that he could rapidly repair. Vic-1's are not renowned for nullifying defence tokens after all.

Plus I was right on his rear, pointing my front arc straight at him, so it was doubtful he could have gotten out of range or arc by moving first anyhow.

Gleefully I grabbed my dice and rolled. 5 blacks and 4 reds (concentrate fire for the extra red was my command of course!) clattered across the table. The blacks came up 1x hit, 3x hit/crit and 1x blank. The reds came up 1x double hit... and 3x accuracy. All defence tokens nullified and 9 damage to the rear arc of an otherwise untouched Vic-2.

*boom*

We both kinda stared at the dice for a second, and then broke out laughing. Well, I was laughing, he did a lot of swearing.

Now I await the day that the dice gods will have their revenge on me.

That's asstounding...I can't wait for wave2 to stick expanded launchers on my Vic-1...I'm gunna maul all the ISDs!

VSD-1 Are so nice when they shoot. It's just getting them in position that's the hard part.

Thanks to Minefield objective My VSD-1 Mauled two Corvettes in one turn.

Hyperspace Assault is brilliant for Empire mirror-matches. Managed to put 7 damage cards onto my opponents flagship in a single attack using the same tactic on Wednesday, though using a Vic-II with Dominator and Leading Shots instead. VSD front arcs are mega-scary.

I once got a range 1 salvo off on a neb B once with a Vicky1 Dominator. 3 red dice, 3 blue dice, 3 black dice (concentrate fire comand as well).

Did somewhere around 13-14 damage, amazing roll. Then I realize that I only have one accuracy icon, and he braces for half damage. I was shocked that it survived, and shot back at me for 5 red dice, then rammed for the extra damage card.

Like something out of a movie.

"Concentrate all forward firepower, I don't want anything getting through!"

take dominator on a vic-1 with expanded launchers ust so you can roll 11 dice in one attack. Yes I said ELEVEN 6+2(expanded launchers)+2(dominator)+1(cf command)

Nothing will survive a single volley form that!!

good job

now get ready to one-shot an ISD

even less will ever be in range of that :P

except for another VSD, granted

While I agree with you Fickle, herding ships is a very strong thing. Having the capacity to make ships fear you more than usual. . . Well it's amazing. Though I think this VSD will get better once rapid reload comes out in the Raider and MC30 expansion.

I fear the VSD-2 more than EL VSD-1s :P

they're alot harder to avoid with the 150% range of the blues over the blacks

plus it's far easier to roll some accuracies so your damage doesn't get braced <_<

See that is one way to do it. I don't mind braced damage. Thankfully I can use dominator to great effect and have all 3 colors. A Dominator VSD with ACM and Screed just sounds amazing!

use dominator with a VSD-2

you get 8 dice :D whereas with the Vic 1 you'll start to regard the times you get close range shots as the times you could've won the lottery :P VSD 2 dominators also fart out 5 dice out the side and 4 out the butt; it's pretty impressive actually

seriously, unless you're bunker busting other fatass destroyers, missiles are about the worst thing you can put on your VSD because of how unlikely they are to be used.

Apart from VSDs, the only other thing that's going to be in their face is squadrons, and you don't even get to use missiles on those :(

We shall see. I can see it working but it would take a great player and a tin of finesse. When wave 2 comes out, those MC30's will croak.

I don't think you are looking at the math though. . . 5 blue dice hell even 6 blue dice is the same as rolling the same number in black damage wise. While a VSD 2 is going to be more expensive.

Now the REAL kicker will be tractor beams. Those will draw in ships trying to flick around and instead get nailed.

I also am not a fan of ELs, I will save the 6 points and take ASM's. This will make redirecting a danger which is fine for me. Hell even Nebulon's fear them

Great shot, kid. That was one in a million!

The odds of successfully one shotting a VSD are...

1/32

The force is strong with this one.

Now go buy a lottery ticket and report the results.

Never tell me the odds!

Never tell me the odds!

because Han doesn't have a snow-ball's chance in hell of one shooting a **** thing that isn't a squadron :P

Great, kid. Don't get cocky!
