Epic list with both Tantive AND rebel transport?

By Nikolishin, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Is it possible to make a viable (rebel) Epic list (300 points) with both the Tantive/CR90 and rebel transport/GR-75?

(I have never played epic before, so I have no clue where to begin...)

Sure if you keep them both down in upgrade.s You start losing a lot of firepower.

Like maybe even naked transport or only 1 or 2 upgrades. Max like 38.

And bare minimum CR about 100: gives you about 160 points for fighters Could be okay, but it youll have to play the big ships very well and use them ramming.

One thing that I like to do is set the Transport to Ramming speed.

Use the Bright Hope title to mitigate insane amounts of incoming damage, some regenerative upgrades, and possibly an Engine Booster, and it puts you at 45 points.

You'll squish far more than 45 points of your enemy, so it's definitely worth it. I'd have to do math to determine whether Combat Refit's worth the 10 extra points, though.

Heck, you might be able to use the Engine Booster to get completely out of combat and recover all of your missing HP back!

For the Corvette, I like to build a Target-Lock based game. Han Solo, Weapons Engineer, a Sensor Team, and your preferred mix of weaponry.

Field 'em both like this, and you have 138 points remaining for escorts.

I have seen it being attempted more than once... but every time the result was the same: completely crushed.

There are a number of challenges linked to flying huge ships :

1 - Not crushing your own ships with your huge vessel (it happens a lot to players starting epic)

2 - Not slamming into asteroids too much

3 - Deploying your fleet so that your huge ship is not actually delaying part its escort and prevent it from participating in the initial fire exchange (its bad enough that your escort is smaller, its worse when only half of it manages to engage in the first round of combat because your transport was in the way)

4 - Finding the right amount of combos that can realistically be used at the same time which involve your huge ship (a fully decked out huge ship is like a fully equipped Tie Bomber; it might seem good on paper, but everyone else knows that your bomber will die before it unloads all of its ordinance).

My first advice to anyone flying epic is simple: don't try to fly more than one huge ship in your first few games. Start winning with one first and move up from there :)
