Pop Vinyl guilty pleasure

By Crabbok, in X-Wing Off-Topic

Ok I used to thnk these Funko Pop Vinyl figures were really dumb but I started getting some in things like Lootcrate and Marvel Collector Corps. box, so I eventually started looking in to them. What I really like is that they have nearly every license you can think of. On my desk at work right now I've got Smaug, Neo, Boba Fett, Goku, Captain Picard, Lion-O, the Joker, and Hulkbuster Iron Man... just to name a few!

Mixing different genres is my sweet spot so this kinda nails it. Anyone else collect these things?

They the 'big head' cartoon style figurines?

I think people are going a bit mental over them at my local store. They just had a load of 'firefly' ones in.

Not my thing but then again i collect lego so who am i to criticise the collections of others :)

Yeah, I've got a buddy that goes crazy over these things. I don't get it. (shrug)

I didn't get it either to be honest. At home I collect 1/12th scale figures. Star Wars Black series, Marvel Legends, etc. I can pose them, photograph them, make props, etc. They are fun. These I can only just put them somewhere.

What I like about these specifically is that they work for my desk at work. I can line them up and it's a quick way to display all the different things I'm a fan of at once.

I just can't seem to bring myself to like them. Odly enough it might be for the same reason you like them: It's just licence X in this one style. And i don't like that style to begin with.

Also Funko has no Kamen Rider figures.

I'll stick with Krosmaster and skylanders: this way I also get some game pieces aswell.

And the occasional transformers toy (Combiner wars FTW!)

But if you like them, more power to ya!

This thread was nothing like I expected from the words vinyl guilty and pleasure.

You weren't talking abour vinyl records were you? :)

That's that thing they had before cassette tapes right? Yeah that doesn't date me at all.

Man, I miss casette tapes... Well not really.

I miss Flipsiders and those transformers that changed into casettes. (Lazerbeak, ravage, Frenzy, etc...)

Ive never seen flipsiders before but i remember soundwave and the tape decepticons.

They were epic but so horribly dated now.

The thing about transformers i never got was that ...

optimus prime is like a 20ft tall robot.. he changes into a truck... i can roll with that (no pun intended)

Bumblebee if 10ft tall, changes into a VW beetle... yeah that makes sense

Megatron however is a a 20ft robot that *either* changes into a 8' square luger pistol (cant see that blending in) *or* shrinks to be a 8" by 8" scale luger... where did all the extra mass go.

I think i might have been too into physics as a pre teen...

My first transformer was Starscream.

I had soundwave with the bird and panther tape. I found his voice in the cartoon show extremely intimidating.

I want the Sharknado one

A wizard did it.

Actually this goes back to the original toys and what we know as transformers actually comes from a variety of different toy lines. Most robots transformed into cars. But you also had a line of robots that transformed into realistically scaled objects: Megatron, Soundwave, Blaster, Perceptor, etc... The dinobots have vestigial crew compartments (left over from their original toy line), the deluxe insections are from yet another toy series, and Jetfire comes straight out of Macross! (wich si why his toy looked different from his cartoon apearance- licencing troubles!)

I think they tried to explain the mass/energy thing in the comics but it's just orbital wobble. Basically they figured if you can get past mechanic lifeforms you can get past size changing. Now Bay threw out the whole "changing size" thing for his movies.

What bugged me as a kid was: "How come most decepticons can fly in robot mode, but the autobots can't?"
