Breeders Canyon after Galactica returns

By Turric4n, in Battlestar Galactica

Hi, i just wrote this question to ffg, what are your thoughts about it?

Hello FFG staff,

we just finished an amazing round battlestar galactica with the pegasus expansion. After the game however a critical question regarding the cylon leader agenda "Siege Warfare". he needs to get all ressources into the red, what can be a really tricky thing to accomplish with food.
at the end we had still 6 food.
therefore the question: is it possible to activate the breeder“s canyon as infiltrating cylon after the galactica returns and voluntary loose the highest ressource without the condition to advance the jumptrack (the rulebook states the jumptrack is not longer used)
thanks for your help

when its not possible the agenda is really luck based, otherwise he can help himself.

Good question. I would say that you can do that since the rules state that you may choose an option with requirements you are unable to fulfill if it does not explicitly say you can't.

Now if FFG comes back and says they didn't mean it that way, then I'll have to go along with them.

After re-reading the Breeder's Canyon text, I change my opinion.

It doesn't say to reduce the highest resource, then advance the fleet marker. It says to reduce the resource to advance the fleet marker. So I think it's not allowed.

that would mean this agenda is mostly based on luck. you can only hope to hit some food degree cards on new caprica then..

You can also aim for the "Human Weakness" Treachery Cards (I think there are 2 of them) and make sure someone is in jail.

This weekend, as Cavil, I had "Siege Warfare" and managed to win. Food was the most difficult to reduce.

We were inclined to allow it when we played. I mean, you can pay a cost and not get an effect, right?

It also seemed like more fun to allow a Cylon leader/sympathizer actually take measures to finishing their agenda.

It seems to me that there are very few -food crisis cards in the NC deck. Therefore, if a cylon leader hasn't achieved his food goals by the NC phase, the only chance he has in Breeder's Canyon.

Absolutely! An infiltrating cylon can definitely use Breeder's canyon to advance his agenda. The next card would be treated as if it had a jump icon (which would in fact do nothing once galactica has returned).

this is the answer from Corey Konieczka. thanks for clarifying!

though, why the next card would be treatet in anyway seems like a mixup with the engine room?
