Stress Shuttles! Is this a Regionals Contender?

By GrumpyMuffin, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, I have totally fallen in love with this list! So much, in fact, that I'm thinking about running it at Regionals. What do you all think?

I'd rather go with Advanced Sensors, to get those big white noses pointing in the right direction more often, but shuttles: love them :-)

the problem is once someone is behind you, I know engine helps that, but its still going to take you time to position for it.

I have always had a problem keeping the enemy at range 2, usually it is range 1 furball or range 3 sniping. I would recommend dropping 1 tactician for an ion cannon. You loose the initiative bid, but with the enhanced engines, it is sometimes nice to use the Engines to re-aim or arc dodge the shuttle after the opponents move. The ion cannon will auto hit Y's B's VT's YT-1300s and so on. Lots of fun to chase a Y-Wing across the field when it can't turn or shoot at you.

if you ion a ship and they are stressed, does it clear the stress?

Not unless they have nien nunb. If you're ioned you perform a white 1 forward.

or an X-wing? anything that has a 1 forward being green? or strictly nien nunb

Is Accuracy Corrector + a 2nd Tactician better than Gunner?

You only get the double stress if Gunner kicks in, but you also have a better chance of landing damage, right?

I think if you have 2 tacticians every shot you take double stresses (at range 2 at least)

Strictly nien nunb. You perform a white 1 forward regardless of what your dial is because you don't set a dial. Nien nunb makes all straight maneuvers green though, so the 1 forward you perform becomes green.

R2 Astromech too.

hm... 2 OGP with Ion and Tact and fully loaded whisper (with gunner) at 44 leaves 2 point bid? or throw another tact on one of the OGP's or throw Tactical Jammer and keep whisper behind OGP's for added evades, Or or drop it to echo throw two more tacticians and Tactical Jammer now you have 4 stress per turn, and a better maneuverable ship to better use the Jammers.

Engine upgrade or Advanced Sensors is a must for maneuverability

i was working on something similar recently. heres the lis:

Capt. Yorr + mangler cannon + tactician + tactician + engine upgrade (36)

Omicron group pilot + vader + engine upgrade (28)

Soontir + PTL + title + autothrusters + stealth device (35)

99pts

  • Soontir is the imperial ace of choice right now, he is amazing.
  • Yorr helps soontir shed stress and can ease the hurt of rebel captive which is seeing lots of play
  • Engine Upgrades on both shuttles lets them keep pace with faster ships, lets them boost out of trouble when they are damaged or outflanked and allow them to get more shots on the enemy

The issue is for me, can a list like this compete with the dominant 2 ship lists out there? im sure it can beat them but i doubt it can do it consistently. falcon, decimator, dash/leebo, brobots, theyr all heavily armoured and pack firepower, durability and hi PS. that combination is going to take some beating.

from what i can tell, the successful lists that r not running large ships are taking Corran teamed with another large ship or going with a mix of B-Wings or perhaps Y-Wings eg. BBBBZ or BBBY/Panic Attack.

as has been discussed, remember that if Yorr takes the PTL stress from Soontir, he does not get the focus, if youd be using it at all it would be to shed EXCESS stresses.

yeah i get this. it still has its uses. K-Turn for no stress with Soontir or stall with Omicron for no stress. Yorr can also free Soontir from stress when he fires on a ship using Rebel Captive (rather common on decimators) and still let him take double actions for just the single stress.

I think it's a solid thought. I have between wanting to test something along this line.

Another option would be try trade a tactician for FCS

shuttles wout engine upgrade are extremely hard to fly and will struggle to get quality shots on the enemy at any range but especially range2 meaning ur tacticians will be rarely used to their potential. ive tested 3 shuttles wout engine upgrade teamed up with soontir. VERY hard list to fly and punishes positional errors. sure it can work but u better be prepared to put in the many hours it will take to master a list like that. Just saying.

This is true, but you can deny a large swathe of space. And you can use Soontir to force them to fight infront of the shuttles. So unless they want to let soontir tail them and run past the shuttle then are going to be taking some blows.

I love flying shuttles, but a smart opponent will blow past them and take a round of Fel shooting unanswered to get behind the shuttles and never fear them again.

exactly. without engine upgrade they are especially vulnerable to rear attacks. being able to boost lets them move about and an extra half ruler length more each turn and the bank boost lets them reposition faster (although it is still painfully slow if a ship is on your rear). Boosting along the edges of the map is a good option although a skilled pilot can move the shuttle through an asteroid field at high speed also.

Turret ships are going to pound attacks into you at least before you reach safety.
