Escalation Strategies

By Baaa, in X-Wing

Hi folks,

I'm looking for some advice on an escalation list and how to make it up. One of the lists I'm looking at is running at about -

60pts - @ 60pts

90pts - @ 72pts (no prizes for guessing where the 12 pts come from :P )

120pts - @ 120pts

150pts - @ 150pts

I'm pretty certain that I'm going to get spanked big time on the 90pt list, but is it a wise move to give such a big advantage to an opponent in the hope of making it up in the next two rounds?

Cheers

If your going to leave points in your box for a later round, do it early while the points are fewer. It's easier to make up a 60-0 loss than a 120-0 if you get outmatched.

How about - Patrol Leader + Gunner + Vader and an academy? I was going to say something like 3 autoceptors, or 5 acadmies, but that would autolose to everyone since everyone would be running Soontir, but a Patrol Leader Decivader should allow you to just sweep every soontir player.

Second round tack an engine upgrade onto the decivader and a sigma squadron phantom, you'll have a point to spare for an initiative bid or an intel agent or tactical jammer.

After that just bolt on Academy + Alpha, Academy + Alpha, etc.

Turretwing still ruins the initial 60 point round, just have to open up enough points to get that token TIE Fighter in, that's all.

An alternative strategy would be to play nothing but Sigma Squadron Phantoms and lose all of your rounds except for the last one which you'll autowin with your 6 phantoms XD. Or just tack on Sigma + ACD + Intel Agent every round and end up with 5. Maybe start with a base of 5 academies, hope the first round goes well for you, then tack on a Sigma + ACD + Intel Agent every round.

Interesting thing of note: 6 Academies and Howlrunner is 90 points. Maybe go with that as your 90 point squadron, THEN tack on the phantoms.

It isn't a horrible idea, as long as you can get some points so the 90 pt round doesn't ruin your MoV. You will also need to play much better on subsequent rounds so you can make any Top cuts.

Also, my recommendation is to make a list of what you think the "top tier" lists are at each point level, and test if you can beat those lists.

Thanks folks,

Much appreciated. I'd like to take the hit on 60, but I'm struggling to make the list work in any meaningful way.

Cheers
