Motion controls work for dance games but not much else, look at this mess:
1080 is so 2012 pc users are up to 4k gaming son, and you'll have to wait for 9th gen for that by which point well of been using holographic displays for years.
Mmm-hmm - I guess you'd really appreciate that level of detail if you're sat with your face three feet from the monitor, but personally I like to relax on my sofa and watch events unfold on the humungous TV on the other side of the room.
How much do those 4K resolution screens cost nowadays, by the way?
I am considering buying a next-generation console before the end of the year for a couple of upcoming games, and I've been doing a fair amount of research on the Xbox One and PS4.
I've come to two overall conclusions:
First, the two next-gen consoles are approximately equivalent. The PS4 offers a slight performance bump in some games, but it's about preference and "ecosystem": what games do you already have? What controller are you most comfortable using? What consoles are most of your friends playing on?
Second--and much less constructively--there is always, always, always someone who will recommend a PC. The fact that almost no one who asks this question is interested in buying a PC has no bearing on this person's enthusiasm. No amount of arguing will defeat this person. The fact that the conversation is often framed by someone wanting a console to play console-exclusive games won't cause even a moment's pause.
He is supremely annoying, and he is simply everywhere.

At a technical level your description fits every game console ever created. (In fact, it also matches most smartphones, tablets, car infotainment systems, LCD billboards, graphing calculators [do people still use these?], etc.)
That doesn't change the fact that the software I'm interested in is often released earlier, or even exclusively, for consoles. But thanks for proving my point...
Except as i listed already 8th gen consoles have a x86 processor which is in every way identical to a PC's cpu and whats thought to be an underclocked radeon HD 7770, previous consoles had purpose built processors and gpu's these modern ones do not.
Every component in modern consoles you find in a PC only the soft ware differs now, and the fact you can cross platform windows 10 with the xbox shows there is no major difference unlike the 360 or the PS3 which due to differences in processor architecture were not PC's.

I think know what you're saying here, but the distinctions you're drawing don't make any sense from a technical perspective.
And I also think I'm done engaging on this, except to say thank you again for proving my point.
Edited by Vorpal SwordI buy everything I can for ps4 mainly because of my friends have ps4 systems
Have an xbox one then just for the exclusives really!
Get both!
If anyone wants to read about a budget PC at £300 that matches PS4.
That is pretty vague. Could you make a list. You would be surprised what a Xbox 360 / One can do
Examples:
Computers are more portable (particularly laptops)
keyboards
computers don't need a TV
keyboards
easier internet browsing
KEYBOARDS
many many more games
KEY FREAKING BOARDS
Laptops will never be better than a non-laptop when it comes too gaming. You can use usb keyboards with the Xbox 360 and probably the one. I might need a tv top play a xbox BUT if the tv dies it doesnt mean my Xbox has too go in for repairs or be replaced unlike some computers. You might have more games on a PC BUT how many of them actully are good? The reason I havent replaced my Pentium 3 is because there no pc game exclusives comingout that are good. Last great pc games I saw were AvP 2 and Command and Conquer Tiberium Sun. On the other hand just about all the H.E.S. exclusive blow all the pc exclusives out of the water.
The only pc has over my xboxs is easier web browsing and the ability to copy & paste.

No there not. Most of the Kinect games I have work fine, Kinect SW being flawless in 1 player mode. Kinect adventures was awesome too.
Motion controls work for dance games but not much else, look at this mess:
I have to question if he even calibrated his sensor or if he has a faulty system. I have that game, though its not flawless like Kinet Star Wars the controls are good. I have to give capcom props for making a Kinect version of their mech games, a series that has 20 plus controls, this game being no exception. The only problems I had was doing things outside the mech, thats the one thing the game doesnt teach you how to do, and the mech has poor view capabilities. You ether cant see far enough or your view is enhanced too such a degree you cant see anything but the other end of the map. The last issue has nothing to do with the Kinect.
Anyway I dont listen too what he says much since he claims to be the biggest hard core ALIENS fan, YET he gave ACM a bads core, one false reason being about lore issues. He was a major hypocrite duringh is ACM review, giveing it a bads core for things thst were done in the story that were also done in other Aliens games, he didnt have a problem with those elements in the other Alien games. He also gave Kinect SW a bad score for stupid reasons. Hee ven said in one of his Kinect reviews that he didnt care if other people could get their Kinect games too work, they dont work for him ergo they suck. Basically he has a software issue or he isnt calibrating is sensor, which is easy to do, anyone who tells him this stuff or possibly how too fix his problem he ignores and gives them the finger.
i dont like his WH40K fanbiyism ether.

Gah. I said I wouldn't engage, but come on: a $550 PC is more expensive than a PS4 by almost 40%. And it still won't run Destiny, for instance.
Trying to keep this on topic and leaving the pc argument out.
I have both consoles and here are notable differences for me:
Xbox One
---------------
Controllers are more comfortable imo and more importantly run on AA's. AA's may seem old fashioned, but for me it's a huge benefit. I simply just have an Eneloop charger with fresh batteries so when it is out, I can just change the batteries and not have to deal with a charging cable.... which is ridiculously short for the ps4, and doesn't seem to like usb extension cables.
Most of my friends use xbone so that makes it the obvious choice for me.
PS4
--------------
Moar P's. The ps4 is slightly more powerful than the xbone so you get some games running at higher resolutions, like 1080 vs 900. Technically the difference is 44% more P's, but does that really mean the picture is 44% better? Is 4k 327% better than 1080p? No not really, unless of course your TV is ginormous. It's not like the jump from SD to HD. Once the pixels are sufficiently small, increasing the pixel density has diminishing returns. At the end of the day it comes down to gameplay anyways. For me, a great game will still be a great game even at slightly lower graphics. For others, having the absolute best possible picture (on a console) is the only notable selling point.
The next real step is better pixels, not just more. Dolby for example is trying to push Dolby Vision , but that's a whole other topic.
What is a growing trend this year is console exclusive content, beyond the normal entire game exclusiveness. Destiny for example had whole strikes (repeatable missions) that are time exclusive to PS4.... and by time exclusive, I mean 1 year (still not on xbox yet). That being said, if SW BF is the primary reason and pretty much the only reason for buying a console, this is a very important consideration. I don't believe anything has been announced regarding this yet, but all the ads so far have the PS4 branding all over them so there is a deal there somewhere.
And one last part to consider. Games this past year or so have seriously been suffering from unfinished syndrome. Prior to this year it was fairly common to have like a gig day 1 patch, but at the end of it you would have a working game. This year you still get a day 1 patch, but you don't have a working game for a sizable amount of time. Assassin's Creed: Unity was an absolute joke at launch, abysmal frame rates, people with no faces, etc. Halo: the master chief collection was broken from the get go to the point where they apologized to the community by giving the remastered Halo: ODST for free. My point is that the trend of broken games is terrible. Even these big AAA studios can't be trusted to deliver. While I have high hopes for this game, I'm not going to buy it until actual (non-nda) reviews are released for it.
Edited by treybert^ Interesting points. Thanks.
In addition to the above, regardless of console or PC, a decent internet connection seems to be a must. I recentlybought an Xbone and am currently living in a rural region without access to internet. You require internet to set up your xbone for the first time, and it seems you need it to create gamer profiles .. even if you have no intention of playing online games with that profile.
I took my box to a mate's place to play Elder Scrolls .. 15gb patch required.
I can understand why developers have these patches, but without a decent internet connection .. you can become really frustrated.
