So Episode VII..

By Malakai1939, in X-Wing

How many of you have been thinking about converting the X-Wing engines in TFA? Blue paint jobs over the red would be fairly easy. And how about those Tie Fighters? White panels for wings with an overall black) color scheme? Seems pretty simple and looks SICK!

As an aside do you think FFG will do anything from The Force Awakens? Don't get me wrong, the Galactic Empire OT time frame is where my heart lies. I grew up during the late 70's/80's. But if the teasers are anything to go by EpVII may finally be something worthy of the name Star Wars outside of the OT (Don't recognise the PT, never happened).

Maybe even a new starter, same rules.. if the movie is as good as the teasers I'd definitely play it! I wonder if there would be a licensing issue though. You know Disney and all of that. Still it's fun to imagine and you can bet that you'll be seeing some X-Wing & Tie Fighter conversions when the movie rolls out.

Don't think licensing will be an issue with Disney. Take a look next time you pick up a ship expansion. I believe Disney has their logo somewhere on the back of the package. I'm hoping they'll do something. A new boxed set with some of the new designs would be cool. I doubt however that we would hear anything before December.

I'm not sure what will happen. The new movies seem to be radically restructuring the Star Wars timeline, so a lot of existing X-Wing ships may not even exist (E-Wing, K-Wing, TIE Phantom, TIE Defender, etc.). Canonical status is yet-to-be-determined on a lot of stuff. Since the X-Wing game seems (for now) to be following the EU path that existed prior to the sale of SW rights to Disney, I can't imagine them switching over in mid-stream, so to speak.

Yeah I thought of the EU and how so much of X-Wing has pulled from it. I'm in the minority but I like the fact that Star Wars has been resctructured as far as what's canon and what isn't. Over the years it's really been all over the place. Disney needed to be free to write stories without contradicting hundreds of authors. So they classified it as Star Wars Legends. If Disney decides to tinker with X-Wing because it has ships from the EU I would hope that those ships would still have a place in the game designated as X-Wing SW Legends. Because honestly the Empire has some **** sexy ships from it's EU IP.

But joking aside I don't think Disney will bother. I think what they're most concerned with are novels, comics things like that. Anything that might shoehorn them or limit the creations of their stories going forward. Card games, RPGs and miniature games don't threaten any of that stuff.

If anyone read the interview post on the main forums a while back about incoming munitions fixes for wave 7, there was a short mention of how the designer interviewed (I can't recall his name) let slip that Wave 8 was almost done and then clammed up completely. It's possible that he stopped talking about it because FFG wanted to be tight lipped, but it's also possible (likely IMHO) that he clammed up because there is an NDA in place to prevent FFG employees from spoiling Episode VII information before Disney gives the go ahead. I would think that any ships planned from the new movie would fall under that NDA.

I also think I read something (maybe a star wars celebration day announcement?) that FFG is already lined up with Disney for the next several years, to include producing Episode VII content. If I can fish up a link i'll come back and post it.

How do you think the timing for the next wave will line up with Episode VII's release? I think that is a good indicator as well.

Most of these ships would be antiques (not actually true, as we have plenty of 30+ year old air frames still kicking around and kicking butt - no reason the same couldn't or wouldn't be true in Star Wars, but, well, whatever). No telling if we'll see some of them in movies or shows outside the sequel trilogy, either.

I don't think FFG is big enough to be on Disney's radar for pre-release information relating to their IP. Lego, Kenner/Hasbro, EA, etc. Yes.

I hope they introduce the new EP VII ships (X-Wings, Ties) with some new pilot cards but the same dials and upgrade bars. Players can choose which era to field, but an X-Wing is an X-Wing. I'm hoping in this X-Wing expansion will have a few neat cards to boost the beloved X-Wing so it sees more competitive play. The game is not called Millennium Falcon.

Other ships from Ep VII would make nice expansions. That chrome TIE for example. They would inject some more official SW into the game and less of the obscure EU salad.

Would you rather see an X-Wing game completely set in the sequal/Episode VII era? If so would it just be a cosmetic makeover or would you like to see core rules tweaked or changed?

I knew it, just a matter of time. And so it has begun!

I believe Mel does a Force Awakens X-wing, there's one painted up in a nice blue/white scheme here, towards the bottom of the page:
