Drasnighta's Quick Fleet

By Drasnighta, in Star Wars: Armada

Only a little bit of work on my own stuff so far, but no compilation picture yet...

BUT. Commission Work on the Way!

Mostly Done:
Commis_01_A.jpg

Just needing some Touchups, as well as Blaster Cannons, and picking out Mauler and Howlrunner:
Commis_01_B.jpg

Received them on the 10th of this month... So not bad for 5 days, when 4 of those I lost so much time to the Mother-in-Law visiting....

Soooo many fiddly little TIE Ln in 5 days of perseverance... tell you the truth, I might rather spend that time with the mother in law than doing those blasted fighters again :P

Good work though, mate. Nice, right'n clean.

Love your work Dras. Though those As just don't sit well with me. Your TIEs are lovely as well. I'm not sure if you just want to stick true to the Star Wars lore but giving the Imperials a splash of colour aside from the grey and blue brings out impressive results as well. Than you truly can tell the squadrons apart. My personal favourite is my Fel's Foying Circus.

Right now I have As, Bs, Advance and Interceptors coloured. Up coming are the fighters and Xs. Could you give a closer photos of your Xs? Still can't think of colours or motif or ways to make them unique from each other.

Anyway, I group my snubs in 4s. 4 squadron is 1 snub wing with it's unique colours. Your's? rather interested to find out

Well Vykes, on average, you can spend a minimum if 4 hours painting 1 fighter wing aka 4 squadrons worth of planes.

To tell you the truth Cruiser, I've lost track of how long it takes me to paint these things. All I know is after another squadron pack earlier this week, I'm sick and tired of painting standard Imperial fighters. (The Spire Guard were a treat*).

Dras's work includes a whole extra core's worth of Tie Ln on top of my total number of Imperial fighters, and I simply can't imagine painting 18 more of them let alone in that time frame. I mean, my Ties didn't take a tremendous amount of brush time, but the repetition and drying times were just painful, even in Alberta's climate. Maybe it's just me being burned out, but I sincerely don't think so: that feat is impressive as far as I'm concerned. Well done :)

Here's a tangentially related question, if you don't mind me asking: how do you avoid repetitious painting fatigue? Whether it's 4 or 400 models, I tend to hit that invisible wall at some point and get into that mindset of 'never again'.

Well, despite what Cruiser says Dras, I still happen to love those A-wings. I can't wait to see the revamped X-wings.

*In a fit of madness, I bought a second X-wing TIE defender today and felt like crying when I realized I'd have to paint another big grey and black Tie fighter with 50% -more- samey wings! No more black and grey fighters for me; white and gold are my thing for the next little while :P Admittedly, I look at this again and can't help but think, "I am such a frigging whiner."

Got a photo of the Spire Guard?

For me, the intervals between painting the air wings is quite long. In one sitting, I must finish the air wing.

Vykes, got a picture of the TIE Defenders that you repainted? I really am hoping that TIE Def and TIE Phan gets into Armada. We need (more like I want) an Independent Combat Wing.

...... Though those As just don't sit well with me. ...... I'm not sure if you just want to stick true to the Star Wars lore but giving the Imperials a splash of colour aside from the grey and blue brings out impressive results as well. ........

I based the first "Hero" A-Wing on both the Packaging, and on Phoenix Squadron from Rebels... I had a frame from the show that had both the Centerline Blue, with Arrowhead, as well as the "Flank Blue" design were both part of what is now "Official" canon... I just changed that to Purple, which is my signature colour for the fleet...

I'm keeping the Imperials 95% the Grey or Blue-Grey... I just did a bit of variation here and there - Mauler Mithel was supposedly painting flames to represent his kills according to Wookieepedia, so I did that...

... The Rebels TIE was just fun to do, and that made a nice Howlrunner.

So I'll be keeping most things the baseline grey.

HOWEVER.

On to New-ish stuff.

The whole Rebel Ship fleet went into the soup and was stripped back to factory, and now is reprimed and just waiting to be repainted. I wasn't quite happy with the partial repaints I'd done, so they're going on again.

Once they're touched up, I'll have a group shot of the whole Fleet, Squadrons and Aces included.

Then, HOPEFULLY, Rogues and Villains will be released and I can get on with the actual fun conversion that I've started.

A wings aside.... I loved all your other Rebel snub repaints

Any repaints for your Star Destroyers?

I think I missed on your Howlrunner and Mithel's TIEs. Got close up shots of it?

Repaints for the Star Destroyers are about 50%.

I'll finish them and Closeup the lot :)

But for now... Commission Paint Finished.

So yes, these are not mine.

Grand total of 5 Hours, 44 Minutes, Man-Hours expended...

DSCF5290.jpg

Nice i dont have the steady hand for the small ties. Mine are so so. But your look great good job

Wow! Under six hours is amazing! Far faster than I went, at any rate. :P

The panels... soooooooo many panels...

Commission work as in someone buys their Armada expansion and ask you to paint for them?

That be it.

In this case, it was 2x Core Sets and 2x Squadron Packs worth of Imperial Fighters.

Things are only at 50% so far...

Only had an hour to work on them so far...

DSCF5295.jpg

Definately need to get another coat down on most of the Ivory on the Assault Frigate, as well as redefine some of those panel lines that got bled into...

But yes, the Assault Frigate, the Two Nebulons, and the Two Corvettes are now all Identical Colour Pallets...

White
- Vallejo Ivory

- Diluted Agrax Eathshade Wash

- Touch up Vallejo Ivory

- Panel edge Reaper Master Series Linen while (To be done)

Grey

- Citadel Mechanicus Standard Grey

- Diluted Nuln Oil Wash (To be Done)

- Touch up (Maybe Drybrush) Citadel Dawnstone (To be Done)

Purple

- Citadel Naggaroth Night

- Layer Citadel Xerus Purple

- Panel Edge Genestealer Purple (To be done)

Then the Nitty-Gritty Detail work.

Those X-wing patterns are great. -laughs- friiiiig, Dras, why must you tempt me into picking up another rebel fighter pack... or I could repaint. Yes, yes, that is a possibility.

The paint recipes are nice to see too. Love it, absolutely love it. Looking forward to seeing the whole formation, capitals and all (and getting a few more close ups on those Nebulons in particular). Great work, mate :)

That's exactly what I'm doing with the X-Wings... They got Simple Green'd and reprimed.

I -started- to do a Rogue Squadron scheme for Wedge, but I'm just hating the Red-On-Ivory... So I think I'm just going to do a double "Hero" paint scheme for Wedge and Luke... Maybe slight variations on each other... But that will at least put the X-Wings on par with all other Squadrons... One more detailed "Hero" Paint scheme, and then everything else is "regular" squadron schemes...

Well, still not complete, but some better - or at least a little classier - shots...

The Assembled (but still unfinished) Fleet

Assault Frigate Mk II - "Invisible Truth"

(Most common Upgrades - Gam Bel Iblis, Gunnery Team, Electronic Countermeasures)

Temporary Flagship of the Hadaris Sub-Sector Group, the Invisible Truth serves as the Captains Chair for Commander Tyre Belaris, a former student of Garm Bel Iblis. The two share a command strategy, utilising pre-planned objectives for their crew, set to go off at Battle's Commence and a secondary plan as the fight comes down to the Wire.

Nebulon B Escort Frigate - "Enlightened Path"
(Most common Upgrades - Yavaris Title)

Primary Fighter Carrier, the Air Boss, Major Helena Farr, makes the Enlightened Path her home. Stocked with a Mix of all Fighter Squadrons, Major Farr prefers a deployment strategy that sets B-Wings on Close Support missions, where she can lend the Enlightened Path's guns to any Air Assault.

Nebulon B Support Frigate Refit - "Cleansing Fire"

(Most common Upgrades - XI7 Turbolasers, Salvation Title)

Fitted with XI7 Turbolasers and an overcharged weapons reactor system, the Cleansing Fire is the primary firepower provider of the Hadaris Sub-Sector fleet. With most of its supplimentary systems stripped out for this weapon power transfer system, the Cleansing Fire is a straightforward weapon.

CR90A Corellian Corvette - "Ranger"

(Most common Upgrades - Electronic Counter Measures, Jaina's Light Title)

The primary non-snubfighter scout for the Hadaris Sub-Sector, the Ranger is manned by a crew that is experienced with Asteriod Piloting, as well as a modified navcomputer for just that purpose. This allows the Ranger to sneak up from unanticipated and undefended sectors to strike a flanking blow.

CR90B Corellian Corvette - "Alacrity"

(Most common Upgrades - Electronic Counter Measures, Leading Shots, Dodonna's Pride Title)

Alacrity, equipped with a primarily Ion and Blaster payload, has its fire control systems calibrated to overload enemy subsystems even through their shields with an overwhelming Ion pulse.

NEWFLEET_02.jpg

The Frigates "Enlightened Path" in the Front and "Cleansing Fire" in the back. Enlightened Path retains the large comm array, whereas Cleansing Fire is lacking its... (Due to 2 Year Old playing 'Airplane' with it and the Invisible Truth while my back was turned...)

Still a lot of work to do... The Corvettes only really have their basecoat, still need to re-highlight, detail, and consider actual markings rather than just the temp Purple on one of them... Probably after masking some areas off, I'll go to town with it...

Also, note the lack of Antenna on "Cleansing Fire"

"Dutch" Vander and one Y-Wing squadron needs its washdown - still very bright white in comparison to the others... Fiddly little details like Engines to do on everything still as well...

Still all the details like Lights and Hangar bays as well...

... and I'm not happy with the Frigate markings... I may just have to go more hardcore with them when I get the masking situation worked out, too...

Yeeees that's what I'm talking about. I rather like it, the super stark white look in particular is a great choice, and it's fantastic to see everything working together. I like the vertical frigate marking, follows the body and unless you do a harsh 90ᵒ bend, it works with that axis.

Aye, I know what you mean about the 'Red Squadron' look. Nothing wrong with that in the least. The double 'hero' scheme is something I would think would work as well, where as I just really like those X-wings.

Naturally, the lore work is great :) It's bloody great to see some other sub-sector groups; as I always have a ton of fun reading these sorts of things. Is it based on a Core, outer rim, or 'colony' based sub-sector? I like the idea of the master-student relationship going on with senator Iblis, and the name really does work. I rather enjoy the explanations and light (the 'common upgrades' sub-header is an awesome idea), but the name Alacrity is one that really fits. -chortles some- I didn't notice the missing comms until you said it, but that is pretty terrific. On the other hand, who isn't guilty of playing airplane with the nebulon B? :P It's actually a pretty good look. Really looking forward to seeing the corvettes completed, and curious as to what "extra hardcore" is on those frigates :)

Well done, mate.

I will be honest, I'm quite a bit lost with Star Wars Lore still... So I havn't really decided on more than a Random Sector name, and to base things Generic enough taht they could fit almost anywhere.

Most of my "Lore Hound" stuff is focused on the BattleTech and WH40K universes, so I'm slowly catching up...

Today, I'm working ont he next stage of the Star Destroyers, correcting their colour from Light Grey to more of a White, as well as deepening the panel line washing... But my Drybrush decided today that its going to leave bristles everywhere (I *have* had it for 15 years) so it looks like a Michael's trip is in my future... If it ever warms up enough to take the 2 year old out...

I love it Dras! Similar to Vykes I enjoy seeing more lore in this game. In fact I can't get enough of it! The Star Wars universe is vast and full of wonderful stories in all corners of the galaxy. I know I am getting slowly caught up and pulled into my models through story. Also fighting off the urge to repaint some to fit my lore even more.

Anyways, keep up the great work and I'll be following you on your adventures. :)

I'll admit, Star Wars isn't my forte for lore either (Elder Scrolls and 40K are), so I'm in that boat. But, it's still a great playground for wonderful stories and a springboard into some of the other stuff... you know, or make your own, that's awesome too :P

Hmm, interesting. Yeah, drybrushes are right fun for that, when they die, they die and leave a bunch of strands behind. Usually when you're half done a project. I do hope you get that one up and running mate, I can't wait to see revamped ships.

Aye Italianjob, It really is a great setting even out of the limelight stuff. Hmm, especially out of the limelight stuff :) Gaaaah thou shalt not tempt me with thy speak of 'repaint' :P Yep, that's a familiar feeling :)

Anyway, echoing can't wait to see more Dras!

Here we go...

... Corrected the Victory's Colours, so its less Grey and has that tint of white, in a lovely textured surface.

Added some 2 minute OSL (which still needs to be cleaned up in parts, where it washed over a bit)...

Still to do is an actual name-marking and then, Engine Glow (which is why this is not a Rear shot)

VSD.jpg

Both Victories are up to this now... As is the Gladiator, however, I am still tyring to find my Light Blue Ink to do Hangar Lighting on the Gladiator, so that's still on the paint board right now.

Some more WIPs...

The VSD before any OSL, mostly to show the colour....
VSD_Pre_OSL.jpg

and more Colour - showing the Grey-White of the VSD vs the Ivory-White of the Assault Frigate (And most rebels now)

VSD_vs_Invisible.jpg

Did get more work done...

Camera is dead at the moment, but there is a Sullust Redux going up on the weekend, and I will have pictures there...

Still undecided wether I take a Tarkin Double-Victory with 100 points of Squadrons, or a AFMK-II, Double Neb, Corvette + 4xYs list...

But, progress was as such:

Both Corvettes are mostly painted now... A lot of Three stage purple on them at the moment... Have to soften it up a bit but keep it defined, and I keep drybrushing purple onto the white sections and having to re-ivory + re-brown them... Urgh.
