Catching up on this Dash business - Build help.

By JamieSpace, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I have just gotten myself a new shiny toy and I'm looking to put it to good use. I have seen (from first hand experience) how powerful the super dash is. I'm looking to pair it with something a bit different and therefore have to change Dash himself.

I have come up with the following to maybe get some use out of the old x wing. Let me know if its hideous or has some legs?

Dash Rendar (36)
Push the Limit (3)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
Nien Nunb (1)
Outrider (5)

Luke Skywalker (28)
Lone Wolf (2)
R2-D2 (4)
Shield Upgrade (4)

Tala Squadron Pilot (13)

Nien is there to help with the PTL stress. Mangler, as I couldn't fit a HLC plus helps with that hole. Luke is the flanker/Lone wolf that has some legs with his ability plus R2D2 and the Tala is there to throw some more red dice out there and be a blocker.

you can fit an HLC easily. Get rid of Luke's shield upgrade.

HLC is essential. Without it, you're not going to run unavoidable dice-offs with 1300s and decimators nor are you going to do significant damage past auto-thrusters. The doughnut hole is part of the fun, since it heavily stresses the strength of your maneuvers

I second that - you're talking about a crazy maneuverable ship, you shouldn't worry about the doughnut hole, because you will be able to get yourself a shot every round - especially as you've included Nien Nunb - for all those extra greens.

I play with two naked B's for an escort - they hit hard enough, move ... well enough.. and take a while to put down - all of which gives Dash more time to clear the field.

I like playing the naked B's because I can fly them together and since they have the same dial, I can usually concentrate fire with them and Dash - which ends up being the key to the build. That sort of synergy isn't there when you use a "lone wolf" version of Luke/R2D2. He has to stay away (no concentrated fire), and the Talsa doesn't add a whole lot of support. It'll be very difficult to concentrate fire with a build like that - since Dash is relying on maneuvers to position himself out of arc, and the headhunter can't stick with him when he does that - and Lone Wolf Luke is somewhere else.

I could be wrong of course - it just seems that flying with a lone wolf "support" ship is counter productive to this sort of build.

I think LW luke is pretty boss, but I agree that the Z-95 is a sore thumb of a ship

you could always cannibalize it for HLC + Engine and then go KK for a total of 10 points, keeping 3 for initiative or something

As mentioned, drop Shield Upgrade and use the points to get the HLC on Dash.

Then, drop Lone Wolf for Draw Their Fire on Luke. Since he can regen shields, it'll help keep Dash alive.

Use the remaining 2 points to upgrade the Tala to a Prototype A with Refit. Makes a much better blocker/flanker.

I do like where Romeo's head is at :P

it can't be stated enough how much of an improvement the lone A-wing is over the lone head-hunter. The dial and boost give you such flexibility it's less like trading up from an old car to a sports card, and more like trading up from a rock to a fighter jet

A lot of good thoughts.

As I said I haven't really played with Dash so not quite sure how to fly it. Guess my thinking was LW Luke would help reach the end game but yes I guess it leaves Dash isolated.

I have a list with two greens with PTL & Autos with Dash that would work well. Yeah I'm never sold on the Z, ties are so much better filler.

I'll be running the 2 greenies (though , given the models, it's really red oni and blue oni) at first possible opportunity

I've flown super Dash sans engine with 3 prototypes, and while it's hilarious fun PWTs have to come in and ruin it. Hopefully the inclusion of evades and thrusters keeps the pair around long than the trio

If I were going the Luke route:

Dash Rendar (36)

+ Outrider (5)

+ Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

+ Engine Upgrade (4)

+ Push the Limit (3)

+ Kyle Katarn (3)

+ Proton Rockets (3)

Luke Skywalker (28)

+ R2-D2 (4)

+ Engine Upgrade (4)

+ Lone Wolf (2)

Prockets can hit things in the donut hole, or protect against Munitions Failure crits. Engine over Shield give Luke much more flexible maneuverability when taking greens to regen shields.

If I was going the Prototype Route:

Dash Rendar (36)

+ Outrider (5)

+ Heavy Laser Cannon (7)

+ Predator (3)
+ Recon Specialist (3)

3x Prototype Pilot (17)

+ Chardaan Refit (-2)

Three Prototypes make an awesome screen. Dash still has decent action economy.

The Luke list looks good Obi and had something similar when I was building. A lot of eggs in the Dash basket but it can hold its own.

I have also thought about the following:

Dash Rendar (36)
Push the Limit (3)
Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
Nien Nunb (1)
Engine Upgrade (4)
Outrider (5)

Jake Farrell (24)
Push the Limit (3)
Chardaan Refit (-2)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Autothrusters (2)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Prototype Pilot (17)
Chardaan Refit (-2)

I would love to fit outmanoeuvre or predator on Jake. I could swap VI for Lone wolf and run him around on his own with the proto sticking with dash to block for him. Another option is to drop Autos and I could fit Pred or Out in but I think that's a bit risky.

If not If I have two As running around in support and with Jake at 9 for some phantom/Soontir hunting

Also would you fly the proto with dash or Jake? I think the proto could be there to help block or cover anyone trying the sneak into that donout hole?

Prototype should be blocking for Dash. Jake's a good "lone wolf" flanker.

Ok cheers, is that hint to use lone wolf on Jake instead of VI?

I like him at ps9 can try to hunt phantoms and interceptors!

I second that - you're talking about a crazy maneuverable ship, you shouldn't worry about the doughnut hole, because you will be able to get yourself a shot every round - especially as you've included Nien Nunb - for all those extra greens.

Been running this the last 3 weeks. Like it.
