Is the Nashtah Pup Now the best ship in the game?

By nikk whyte, in X-Wing

@StephenEsven

I understand how the pup is supposed to work I'm just saying by the current rules framework is does not.

The current Tournament Rules stipulate that an End of Match (page 2, right bottom) occurs when one of three things happens:

All of your opponents ships are destroyed (quoted above in previous posts)

All ships are destroyed

Time is called

I went back and checked End Phase (page 5) in the rulebook and it does state that a game ends when no ships are there to start the next round. You technically have a win here. But this is the general rules you are quoting. The Tournament rules give different end of game conditions. So there are different End Game winning conditions depending on what rules set you use.

I'm just pointing out that the Tournament Rules will need an update to include the pup deployment or else it won't arrive in time. (or and errata to the H.T. title card so that instead of stating "After being destroyed..." it states "Immediately before being destroyed..." ) either of which will fix the pup trigger timing problem.

No, if it had a price of 0, it would indicate that you could include the Pup in your Squad for 0 points.

opponent places fat cheri and soontir, you put down a deployment zone full of pups :)

You better have lots and lots of dials!

@Sergovan The tournament Rules have 3 victory conditions. The 2 from the standard rules plus one to account for the game being time limited. Winning by destroying all enemy ships is the same no matter if you play a tournament or a casual game.

Nashtah Pup is unique. Sorry. :(

EDIT: Not that it matters. I know we're all just joking around at this point. :P

I was hoping that we would also have a card that allowed us to choose to field Bossk in just the pup instead of the tooth.

Well, they did show a ship template with his name on it. Some stuff has not been shown yet. Maybe he's up next? Or maybe it's something else.

For only 6 points, you add 4 health to your overall squad. That's great, but the more important thin is that killing the pup doesn't add to your opponents MOV.

I have been thinking about this a little bit more, and re-read the rules and yesterday's news release. Actually unless we specifically hear otherwise, you DO get the points for killing the YV-666.

  1. In order for the Pup to be deployed, the YV-666 must first be destroyed.
  2. In the tournament rules, points are scored when a ship is destroyed.
  3. Therefore, when the YV-666 is destroyed, the points for it are immediately scored. This includes the 6 points for the title.

I get your logic here, but this is a whole lot of speculating. AS IT STANDS, what you posted seems true.

Which part do you feel is speculation? 1) and 2) are specifically stated by FFG, there is zero speculation. 3) logically must follow 1) and 2).

But, there is a hole in the logic. What happens if the Pup is your last ship? At this point are you only fighting to hurt your opponent's MOV? I doubt that will be the case. I'm holding off speculating as I'm sure the Pup will be worth some points. Maybe it will be just the six (cost of the card) or it might be the entire kit and caboodle, or maybe something in-between.

If the Pup's the last ship standing you still need to kill it to get full MoV, otherwise the game'll go to time and all your dead ships will count against your MoV. There are points in it, but they're yours, if that makes sense.

Exactly this. This scenario is already covered under the rules.

  1. If the Pup is deployed (it could be your last ship but does not have to be) and you kill all the opposing ships, then you get a full win with 5 victory points, and then you add up MoV. It is possible to win 100-100 with a full win worth 5 victory points if you have a 100 point squad and the Pup is the only ship remaining on the board.
  2. If the Pup is deployed and the game goes to time, then you count up MoV on both sides as per the standard rules to determine the winner, with Hounds Tooth providing all of its points to your opponent.

Because there is ZERO possibility of a rule change over this card....

As I stated, this makes sense, AS IS. But nothing stays AS IS with stuff like...

Since the pup keeps the same pilot skill as the hounds tooth pilot, would that include upgrade cards too? For example, if you flew bossk (ps7) with VI (putting him at ps9) and hounds tooth, would the Pup get a ps of 9 or 7?

I want to say that the pup is a PS9.... but what if you get an injured pilot crit while on the Hound's Tooth? Does the pilot miraculously heal while escaping to the Pup? I think that from a rules point of view the crits shouldn't follow but from a fluff point of view some of the pilot crits should.

It does not say that any purchased upgrades carry over, so I'm forced to assume that if Bossk with VI were to be destroyed, your Pup is PS7.

Also, blinded or somehow else injured pilots are HEALED when they enter the Pub.

Yes, that's not realistic. Also why should Bossk lose his Veteran Instincts? But its a game after all and thats how the game mechanics work like. All pilot critical damage effects and pilot talent upgrades are ship effects and upgrades game-wise.

The pilot is just value and ability only. And this two things, pilot skill and pilot ability, are transferred to the Pub.

So unless FFG FAQs that talents and pilot critical hits are transferred, they stick with the Tooth.

you get healed because the emergency escape vessel has an emergency escape med kit or something

you lose your epts because you're not flying what you're used to (your space-faring sandcrawler tank of a vessel), but a sh*tty little emergency escape vessel :P

of course, the real reason will always be gameplay >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> fluff

Well, say the hounds tooth took 3 face up Crits then goes; you transfer those to the pup, it's assigned damage cards would exceed its hull value, so you'd be paying for this ability... For reasons?

EDIT: NVM
