Star Wars Battlefront

By Imperial Advisor Arem Heshvaun, in X-Wing

After seeing the game play all I can say is if your Imperial don't ever bother using the AT-AT nor the AT-ST. They just make you a big target and you will die easier than you would if you had juststayed on foot. TIE Fighters are the Empires only good vehicle and even then since itappears the X-Wing can be mounted with Ion Weapons, that explode which means it can make clouds of ions probably, the Empire has few advantages if any in this game.

Umm....for the limited gameplay? Also, I noticed that the rocket launchers had to be gained at special places and not everyone can just grab one. Also, the AT-AT's killed a lot before they were taken down.

Mercenaries 2 and lord of the rings conquest? because i'd not heard of either of those before looking up the relevant info just and even looking at the art work rings no bells.

Everything else was made before EA bought them and yes then they did make some fun games.

Oh, you're only including after EA bought them (they were bundled with BioWare, both of which had merged due to financial issues a year before).

I was talking about Battlefront 1 and Battlefront 2.

Bull. That game is one of the best fps ever

I was going to reply then i saw this and realised your a troll.

colonial marines was a buggy mess that was not worth the money people were conned into paying.

Neither of which falls in the 10 year window i was talking about and again was pre EA.

See the last ten years have been pretty sparse, the force unleashed was okay for what it was a hack and slash platformer but it paled in comparison to jediknight 2, and the kinect game just plain didn't work except for the dance mode which was a pretty big middle finger to star wars fans.

And the only really good prequel game was republic commando way back in 2005.

Looks outstanding, the gameplay looks nearly as good as the reveal trailer. And keep out, pessimistic whiners! This is going to be a blast.

Wouldn't have been so skeptical if EA Gearbox and Ubisoft didn't scorch everyone so bad. (seriously we have been beyond burned by trailers and even vertical slice game play demos.)

My impressions: This will be a fantastic shooter, but simply will not live up to its potential as a STAR Wars game. I don't understand how a 10 year old game can feature space battles, a dozen planets and 2 eras of gameplay...yet we can't do the same now? I'd trade all the pretty pew-pews for simultaneous space/infantry battles. Naturally, EA also has a terrible track record with launching buggy or unplayable games with loads of day 1 dlc to bait you into wasting money. I'm hoping this game won't follow that trend, but its a bit of a disappointment either way.

And heeeeeere's the inevitable guy calling the game a disappointment 5 months before it's even out. Sigh.

I don't know how you're supposed to have an infantry-based game with space battles. The game centers around you as a soldier, and from there you can jump into a walker or ship. Not everybody wants to play a flight simulator. This style of game allows for everyone to have the option to do what they want. Personally, I totally wouldn't mind good space combat as I'm a pilot by nature in these games (dogfight me in BF1942, anyone, I dare you), and I will spend most of my time in the ships. But just because it isn't absolutely, 100%, without flaw, everything I could ever ask for in a game, I'm not going to scream and complain and throw a nerd-rage hissy fit like so many others have. Maybe they will release an expansion or patch down the road with a special space combat game mode. But it's much more important to focus on the primary gameplay modes and release it in time for the holidays. Let's be realistic for a change.

I'm excited for this game, but probably won't buy it. One of the main reasons: I'm tired of being called/hearing others get called the following names:

I'm sick of hearing:

*$#%&

&@#$@

&*&^

**^%#^%

#@##!!%

*@#$!@#*&!@#*

^&%$@#!

and

noob

as well as the following phrases:

"I'm going to ******* kill your ****** ***"

"Stupid ****"

"****** lover"

"You're all *******"

Seriously. It's not even the fact that I'm getting called the names...I don't know these people and don't take insults from strangers personally. It's not just the constant negativity, aggression, racism/bigotry, lack of teamwork, and lack of general wit. It's the fact that people say all these things, but can't back it up. So what if you don't like ***** people, what are you going to do about it? Beat me at a video game? Ooooh, such fear and consequence, how about you get off the comms so if someone has something of value to say, it's actually audible. First person multiplayer shooters attract the worst people.

At least playing X-Wing, if someone wants to call me a ******, they have to say it to my face, as well as the knife I usually carry (though it looks intimidating, it's super dull and has a hard time cutting cardboard!).

EDIT: I put in all the **** and @$#@ without necessarily having specific words in mind. Though, I have heard some pretty rough stuff.

EDIT 2: I am legitimately excited for the game...unfortunately, my experience with the last few Call of Duty's/Battlefields left a bad impression, and part of the player base is to blame.

If a game does not work right I get a refund I don't wait a month For it to get fixed, what's more I'm not likely to buy it again until it's massively reduced in price.

I'm not the game industries *****, if I spend my cash they better deliver a working product.

Likewise. I'm not spending my dollars on something that doesn't work as advertised, or even work at all.

Just play without a headset. I never used a headset for FPS games.

I don't use one! I suppose I could just mute everyone, but if I remember correctly, that takes considerable patience. Besides, you never know when someone is going to say "hey, Cody Campbell, there's a dude with an Uzi behind you."

Never played the previous ones. It's still ignorant and ridiculous to throw that much of a fit over one aspect of an otherwise incredible-looking game.

Er no he's talking from prior experience your the one who's ignorant about the fact the previous games did space combat and infantry combat.

That's not my point. My point is the negativity and excessive over-the-top complaining. If space combat is ALL you care about, then get out of this thread since obviously you aren't interested in the game. If it's NOT all you care about, then get over it and discuss things rationally.

Its ridiculous to wish that the sequel to a Star Wars game that featured space battles featured space battles? No one is throwing a fit, I already said "It will be a fantastic shooter" and I meant it. Your fanboy is showing.

Never played the previous ones.

Ignorant:

"Lacking knowledge or information as to a particular subject or fact " You are literally ignorant of SWBF. You never played them, thus don't understand how much fun space battles were or how disappointing it is that the next-gen game won't feature them on launch. In other words:

If you think "noone is throwing a fit" about this game, then we can keep tossing back and forth the "ignorant" beach ball. But I'm not interested in your egotism anymore. You are just beautifully demonstrating the kind of pompous and indignant attitude that permeates these message boards and Star Wars fanboys in general. I'm as far from a "fanboy" on these forums as you will find, champ.

Given he's comparing previous incarnations to the new one it's perfectly valid to bemoan the fact it's missing.

It's odd your trying to come off as the arbitrator of all things battlefront when your not even a fan of the series by your own admission.

Your the one being needlessly insulting and dismissive here, which makes it ironic your asking for rational discourse.

FFS, I'm not "arbitrating" anything. I'm saying lay off the f'ing pessimism pedal and give it a chance. I don't know how this game will be, and neither do any of you. Chill out.

Also it's you're.

Also it's you're.

Yeah but I do that on purpose now to annoy the pedants just like I mispronounce xizor around my friend so I can watch the veins on his bald head throb in annoyance.

I don't even know how you're supposed to pronounce Xizor. Or the Kir-whatever ship in wave 7.

Haha...the squabbling in this thread sums up the exact attitude I'm avoiding by not playing these types of games.

Yeah, thanks for the heads up. I'm planning on getting it for single-player and co-op modes, and I guess I'll gingerly try the multiplayer and see how it goes. It just might be this bad, huh?

Personally - I enjoyed Star Wars Battlefront II and my kid still gets a kick out of playing it on Xbox but I wouldn't hold up the fact that it had ground combat and nominally included space combat as any sort of goalpost. The space combat in the game was barely tolerable (and no I'm not asking for a TIE Fighter quality space sim to be paired with an FPS) - I'd much rather the devs focus on making a really great game that is narrow in focus / mechanics than trying to shoe horn everything into the same bucket and turning out sludge

"Your scientists were so caught up with whether or not they could they didn't stop to think if they should" - Ian Malcom

There will be PLENTY of time and opportunity to expand in the game universe now that the new world order of Star Wars is upon us. Making a great game and having it do well will go a long way towards ensuring that Disney sees that an investment in digital gaming is a worthwhile venture. I'm not saying that if the game sucks then Disney will pull out of the game market - but if it is the killer app (a'la Halo for the original XBox) for the next gen platforms then that can only be a good thing for their take on that space.

Well to be honest the fist battlefront Battlefront_copy.jpg didn't have space combat and was by far a better game then the 2nd one gave us space battles and heroes. I'm sure if the new battlefront does well (and it should) they will most likely have space combat in it due to having more time to refine it.
