I'd go with 4 ships over 2 ships

Isn't it some sort of unspoken rule of thumb that if at all possible try and have at least for ships in your list? I have no idea I don't even own four ships but i've heard it repeated so many times that it's one of those things that's managed to stick in even this newbies head. Though I would like to know how you did. If you run one list can you run the other and let us know which was more effective?
