Looking for input!

By Kepora, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Right, I'm focusing on Rebels at the moment. Currently I own the core set, and an additional A-Wing, Y-Wing, and E-Wing. Needless to say, I'm a little limited on options - so I'd like input on any ways you guys think I can optimize this, and what additional or replacement craft you think might fit in!

PILOTS

Tycho Celchu (33)
A-Wing (26), Cluster Missiles (4), Push the Limit (3)

Etahn A’baht (37)
E-Wing (32), R7-T1 (3), Flechette Torpedoes (2)

Grey Squadron Pilot (30)
Y-Wing (20), R2 Astromech (1), Proton Torpedoes (4), Ion Cannon Turret (5)

A wings are the perfect ships to carry Proton Rockets. If you are not quite new player, delete the E wing and fly a pair of rookie x wings. A turreted Y wing does not need ordenance.

Super A, X, X, ion Y. And take fun !!!

I only have a single X-Wing right now, and I rather like the E-Wing; it's pricey, but that raw speed and the really nice abilities help a lot.

And Proton Rockets? You mean Proton Torpedoes? If so, A-Wings can't carry them.

You can get them in the rebel aces pack, which would also give you another A-wing and pilots as well as a Bwing. They are also in the YT-2400 which is Rebel Frieghter (Dash Rendar)

Can't go wrong with another X-wing. E-wings are very nice but very points costly, hardly ever see more than one in a list. B-wings and Y-wings are tanky.

Proxy the Proton Rockets card, they work fine in a Agi 3 ship. 5 red dice is quite effective.

Consider purchasing the Rebel Aces pack, it.is a must if you play rebels. And the X wing blister is quite interesting. 45 euro/dolars and blast your friends !!!

Welcome to the game!

For your build, here's a variant:

Tycho (Push the Limit, Cluster Missiles)

Etahn (Push the Limit, Advanced Sensors, R7-T1)

Gray (Ion Cannon Turret, R2 Astromech)

100 points

As for other expansions you could consider, if you keep concentrating on Rebels:

- B-Wing

- X-Wing

- Rebel Aces

- Millenium Falcon

In that order, I think. :-)

Oh you can bet your ass I'm going to get a B-Wing - it's one of my favorite Star Wars ships! I definitely want to run it, possibly alongside the E-Wing and an A-Wing if I can make the points work.

Not sure how well Etahn would work without munitions - but come to think of it, I'd get just as many dice by getting into Range 1! Now if only I could roll some **** hits every now and then, then I think I'd be set. :P

Also, regarding Advanced Sensors - I honestly don't see the point of it, but that's probably because I'm a newbie. Could someone explain to me why that'd be a worthwhile upgrade? Also, would it stack with Push The Limit and R7-T1? Finally, is the A-Wing blister the only one with PTL?

EDIT: Actually, looking at Advanced Sensors, I can see the merit, I think. Have the Y-Wing ion a target; if successful, I could use R7-T1's ability to get a free target lock and boost, then drop down an evade or perform a barrel roll followed by a U-turn to keep me right on a target's ass...clever. Me likey!

Usually, Advanced Sensors allows you to get an action before doing a red maneuver. But you can't Push the Limit then, because the stress prevents you from doing a red maneuver... so in this case you can do 2 actions with PTL (or 3 is you use the 2 from R7-T1) using Advanced Sensors, then do a green maneuver to clear the stress immediately and have more maneuver options for the next turn.

As for your question about Push the Limit, it's included with the A-Wing expansion and the Imperial Aces expansion (in which you actually get 2 PTL cards, as well as 2 Shield Upgrade cards and 2 Hull Upgrade cards, and a few other goodies - the Aces packs offer great value in general).

Oh and yes, the B-Wing is an awesome ship. :-)

Yeah, I hadn't considered the ability to perform an action, THEN a red maneuver. That really does change things up a bit!

Yes, a really nice upgrade. I forgot to add that it also allows you to get an action before moving if you know the ship will bump another, or go through an asteroid or debris (all of which normally deny actions of course).

For that matter, you can also use it to boost before your maneuver... even if it's a Koiogran Turn or Segnor's Loop.

S-Loop as an actual S, to make it a K-turn + Barrel-Roll?

Boost and S-Loop in the same direction, turning it into a 88D loop at Speed 5?

Boost and Koiogran, to turn it into an S-Loop?

Et cetera, et cetera.

Forgive me for being a newbie, but...S-loop? XD

Segnor's Loop, a new maneuver available on the Aggressor (IG-88's ship) and the Star-Viper.

Think a Koiogran, but with a Bank template instead.

Oooh, neat! What ships are able to perform that?

The Aggressor (aka IG-2000) and the Star-Viper.

You can approximate it with a B-Wing with Advanced Sensors and Engine Upgrades, if you wanna get a hang of it.

When I recently asked what was a good foundation purchase for the Rebel faction the overwhelming response I got was the Rebel Aces Expansion. I'm new so I can't vouch for it personally but all of the research I've done in planning my purchases have confirmed the advice I was given here. This place is a good resource for beginners. Good luck!

Okay, so I have a problem. I still intend to get the Rebel Aces set for those Proton Rockets when I get the cash, but I have a bigger problem.

The only other player here runs a TIE Swarm, and sometimes a Decimator. He makes heavy use of howlrunner and agility/pilot skill-increasing cards, and ALWAYS uses Evade for his Action. Combine htat with the fact I can't roll a hit to save my life, I can NOT touch him.

How in the hell am I supposed to deal with this? Even with my Ion cannon turret, he can still evade like a mofo, and Cluster Missiles are pretty much useless.

You're looking at a fairly poor match-up for your fleet, as you've got fairly low damage, fairly low health, and losing a single ship exacerbates the problem. The TIE Swarm, on the other hand, has lots of attack dice, 21-24 HP, and doesn't particularly notice when a ship goes down.

The Deci-Swarm is similar, though running less damage for more HP, and a lower likelihood of losing by Margin of Victory.

When he's running Howlrunner, kill her First.

As swiftly as possible.

Her ability provides a disproportionate increase in the damage of his fleet, particularly when combined with her fragility.

When he's going Howlie + Decimator, kill Howlrunner First.

The Decimator isn't supplying nearly as much damage as she is through her ability, and takes way more effort to take out.

You might have a better time against his swarm if you take the optimization listed throughout this thread, and keep that in mind.

Remember, though, that the TIE Swarm is a very old archetype in this game, and has only recently been phased out of the metagame by the MoV system and the timer. It can strangle anything else fairly handily.

Not sure what MoV is, and if by timer you mean tournaments? Well...that's not an issue we'll likely have to deal with for quite some time. XD

MoV= Margin of Victory, the particular method that tournaments use to score Wins in a timed environment.

Basically, it measures the cost of the ships that either side has killed.

Swarms, which have a LOT of fragile ships, do poorly, as the enemy only has to kill 12 points more than you've killed of them to have a full victory.

Similarly, ships with a LOT of tankiness do well, as though they would eventually lose in a to-the-death match, you're not likely to have killed one in the time limit.

SO. I recently acquired the Rebel Aces set and an additional B-Wing, and with it, I've come to this build for a 100-point list:

Etahn A’baht (45)
E-Wing (32), R7-T1 (3), Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6), Outmaneuver (3), Enhanced Scopes (1)

Blue Squadron Pilot (27)
B-Wing (22), Autoblaster (5)

Green Squadron Pilot (28)
A-Wing (19), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Proton Rockets (3), Push the Limit (3), Marksmanship (3)

For larger games at 150 points, I'd up it so:

Etahn A’baht (45)
E-Wing (32), R7-T1 (3), Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6), Outmaneuver (3), Enhanced Scopes (1)

Green Squadron Pilot (28)
A-Wing (19), A-Wing Test Pilot (0), Proton Rockets (3), Push the Limit (3), Marksmanship (3)

Keyan Farlander (49)
B-Wing (29), Autoblaster (5), Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6), Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6), Push the Limit (3)

And finally, if I assembled ALL of my ships for a single sortie, they'd clock in at 250 points how they're geared!

Nera Dantels (38)

Biggs Darklighter (33)
X-Wing (25), R7 Astromech (2), Advanced Proton Torpedoes (6)

“Dutch” Vander (29)
Y-Wing (23), R2 Astromech (1), Ion Cannon Turret (5)

After looking at Keyan Farlander, I'm REALLY loving the PTL/Ability combo on him. Barrel Roll or Focus, PTL to Target Lock, burn that stress token to pop an Advanced Proton Torpedo or to help guide the Autoblaster...I like it. I like it a LOT. I love how the A-Wing can weave across the board, but part of me wants to try just Etahn & Keyan together, and use the leftover points on upgrades. May not be the most efficient spending of points, but holy hell they'd pack a wallop.

With what you have I would run this.

Keyan Farlandar

Fire Control Systems

PTL

Ion Cannon

Proton Torpedo

B-wing E2

Kyle Katarn

Coran Horn

R2-D2

Shield Upgrade

Fire Control Systems

PTL

Proton Torpedo

Total 97 points.

Profit :D

Also if you can pull it off get the Imp Aces pack. It comes with Opportunist. This gives you stress if your target has no focus or evade tokens. the reward is you get to roll an extra dice. Roll 4 dice attacks with a stress to modify them with is scary.

Of course you have to run with some one that can strip tokens.
