Precision Strike questions

By Intys Rule, in Star Wars: Armada Rules Questions

I attack an opponent, end up rolling 3 hits, 2 crits (2 black dice with hit-crit and 1 black dice with hit) to his front hull. I use ACMs as my crit effect and he is left with 1 shield on the front hull and no shields on the side hulls. He loses the shield and gets dealt 4 normal damage, so 4 facedown cards.

A few questions now:

1. When exactly can I spend the 1 die to flip a facedown card? I had waited for him to deal his 4 facedown cards... but he said I should've done this before he dealt the cards. I said why not just deal 3 cards instead... how can I spend 1 die to flip a facedown card that isn't there yet?

2. Can I spend 2 dice to flip two cards?

3. How exactly is a "random facedown damage card" determined? Again, this was why I waited for him to deal the damage cards, then I could chose either the first, second, or third damage card.

If this was meant to flip a facedown damage card that is ALREADY on the defending ship (damage dealt from a previous attack), then I guess I see the point.

ACM you mean assault conclusion missiles I am assuming? Where are you getting the flip facedown cards from?

I'm assuming it has something to do with the precision strike objective referenced in the thread title, but I have no idea what that card says so I can't really answer the question.

Precision Strike says:

"When a squadron with BOMBER or ship is attacking, it may spend 1 die with a (HIT) Icon to flip 1 random facedown damage card on the defender faceup."

This would have to happen in the modify attack dice step which would mean in the example above at that point in time he would have no damage cards and would therefore have no effect. If you attacked him again you could use this ability in the modify attack dice step to spend a die with a HIT icon to flip one of the damage cards you done previously over.

You can only use this ability once due to the timing of 'When'...

A “when” effect occurs at the moment that the specified
event occurs and cannot occur again for that instance of
the event.
Since it happens in the modify attack dice step you would shuffle the damage cards the ship had at that point and pick one at random to flip over.

To specify, you roll three hits. The target had no damage beforehand. You cannot use the ability.

You shot it again, say from your second arc. You roll three hits. You can now spend one of those hits, and you can flip one of the existing cards over, and the target would receive the two remaining hits.

Clear?

Much clearer now, thanks. So it allows me to flip damage cards that are ALREADY on the ship, not the damage cards that will be dealt by that particular attack. So if the ship has no damage cards, I cannot do as the objective card says.
