2nd and 3rd place tie in a tournament

By WargameHub, in X-Wing

We had a tournament today, it was small with only 7 players.

1st Place had 15 pts

The next two players had 10 points, with an MoV of 464, and identical strength of schedule

-- 2 out of 3 opponents were the same and the different ones were both 5/150 as they both had byes.

We didn't have time for a tie breaker game for 2nd place so we diced off like this:

3 red dice

- blanks are worth 0 points

- focus are worth 1 point

- hits are worth 2 points

- crits are worth 3 points

It was a really weird situation.

30 point match for a tie breaker? Anyone?

No time is no time.

Hard to bracket 7 teams into a fair 3 rounds. You're basically at 3 rounds of single elimination to pick a winner.

Do what we did in Japan jankenpyon (rock paper scissors) solved ALL problems

Just give an equal second and no third place.

Had the two player faced each other at any time during the tournament?

Edison is way over powered!

Did they play each other? If so, the winner in that game gets second. There should also be other tie breakers in their opponents.

There's also the option to calculate the Extended Strength of Schedule, which is calculated like the SoS but with the SoS instead of match points.

Note that Random is a default option with FFG's software (I think it is a 5th or 6th level tie breaker).

Use birthdays, the younger guy wins. He had less life experience after all
