R.I.P UFS in N.Y.C

By Magumo, in UFS General Discussion

Please see the Pro Tour Circuit Thread in Organized play. There are already plans to have a Pro Tour event in Rochester NY (not too far from you) so let the people who are playing for prize support know there will be increasingly better support for the players as of this year.

Excuse me but this is not Yugioh. This card game is not marketed towards children. The only reason that YuGiOh is called a children's card game is because it has a TV show aimed at children airing is a saturday morning lineup(or at least was) aimed at children. Also all the cards in the game are edited to make the as child friendly as possible. UFS has big breasted barely clothed women on the majority of it's cards as well as blood and violence. Each of the games it represents are at the very least T for Teen.

If you watched Yugioh the Abridged Series (found on youtube, or at yugiohabridged.com), you'd understand the humor in my remark.

Am very familiar with the show however I only really find it humorous when the joke is indeed about a childrens card game >.>

I'm gonna be honest and its gonna sound like I' being an ass.. But one of the problems with UFS in NY is people seem to not excel and blame it on so called "broken" cards.. And truth is they're just tired of loosing. Here's an example. Animation Odyssey is one of the favored UFS spot due to the store credit players can earn for winning. In all honesty outside of Magnus FoP and Hata's AoP victories, I've NEVER lost there at all. And for the longest I had to hear the "its cuz you run brainless evil, BRT is broken, boo hoo hoo!!" So after worlds I had a new excitement thinking all the "broken" cards are gone so all thge complainers will flock to events... Boy was I wrong, now I hear "boo hoo hoo they took my fav cards away"

Its soo bad me and Mag are planning to take a random trip or two over to Tapout stomping grounds(I'm sooo going to take Hanovers store championship).

Starting friday I'm gonna make another month effort to make it to all 3 UFS days in NYC.. Lets see if anyone shows up?

Sadly he speaks true since he would always SPLIT the store credit when he would he make it to top 2. So he never lost since he didn't play it. .As for your remark about "broken" cards, I guess nearly winning every prerelease I ever played makes me a bad player.Dude, you ran the a Hanzo loop kick deck. It was brainless, also BRT was broken.I mean they had to make several cards just to try to stop it and the only one that has half decent was wilful and that can still get hacked with another BRT and fail hard. I to this day do not know what disneyland world you live in where all cards are created equal or what drugs you are taking but stop hogging them up and share. Also I do not know was crying about cards being taken away,to be honest I am glad it happened sooner. I feel as if lived through the dark ages of UFS. Enough of that though cause it is all he said she said BS. As for not flocking back to play, times are a bit hard right now, unless you just miss me and want to see me i pretty sure you would want me to go there with at least a deck that can give you a challange. Also it is a pain pretty much be paying for nearly a whole teams card pool when it is just me. They put in when they can but since times are hard for all of us it is pain. Unless you just want one person to go with a deck which would not be enough for a event to be held, you are going to have to wait till we get a hold of the cards we are trying to get to be able to play which thank jebus is not that much anymore The moment we get a hold of those cards we are going right back to playing. I am really great to see that you are still interested in the game and wish to keep playing though. That gets me in high spirts that there is still some people. Oh and as of right now, I pretty much say Animation Odyssey might be the only place I may be able to play at since it fits well in to my schedule as well as most of my cult...I mean team's. If anything changes of course I will let people know.Oh and don't worry Osie, that little habit of you not losing. Yeah me and my team will GLADLY help you break it.

You fail to mention that I split store credit in the finals is cuz I'm always paired against a teammate. Being the strongest on my team its easy to kno who would turn out the victor. But dont sing it, bring it! I'll be at Lisa's saturday!

As for that Pro Tour upstate... Yea I'm winning that unless Omar can stop me..

Going to every store and kicking everyones ass isnt gonna help playerbase........noone likes to get their asses kicked everytime they want to go have fun

You know sadly thats how most NYC gamers enjoy playing. No one wants to play a game down here they instantly dominate, they want to get thier asses kicked every so often.

There's a difference between being a ****** and being helpful.

I don't know how things are handled in NY, but here are two scenarios:

1) A new player is interested in the game and learns the basics. He decides to buy a starter deck, then plays someone else who did I mention was playing a Fire Astrid? Newbie gets raped (no homo), wonders why the hell he spent the money and leaves never to come back.

2) A new player is interested in the game and learns the basics. He decides to buy a starter deck, and the player who taught him how to play offers suggestions on which deck to buy. Then they sit down and fix his deck with spare commons. Newbie gets raped (no homo), but at least he sees room for improvement and good competition.

If a player is new, he is not really expecting to win, but showing that the group cares about each other enough to help each other proves to be more important than winning most of the time.

I know NY players have a great sense of camaraderie (sp?), and that's important. Hell, down here in Columbia whenever there's a prerelease and someone says they want to play character X, half the time people will just hand over whatever they pull for that character. It happened in this prerelease, too: Mulciber113 wanted to play as Paul, one of the guys called Duane wanted to play as Kazuya, another of the guys called Marcus wanted to play as King and I wanted to play as Christie. Before I knew it, I had three Fruit Pickers on that first day.

Magumo, who are you out of curiousity?

I'm still around, just having to live in LI. Venue's great up here, you can earn some pretty hefty discounts on product too...to bad no one interested...

Up until now that is! I finally found/convinced someone to play just a day ago at school. Hopefully now that I have an actual independent player, maybe things can pickup around here, and extend into the city.

Omar if you see this and haven't checked your voicemail, call me. PM or ask someone for my #, which I'd rather not give out on the forum...

Actually, Rochester is about a 6 hour drive, if you don't stop. The train is 7+. So that's not exactly "not too far from you".

....its alot closer than Gencon or missouri thats for sure.

Crap, I cant make it, family issues have come up. Also I still dont have everything for my deck yet so i can't play yet, and the weather is suppose to be rain and be real crappy so odds are even if I could go i wouldn't.I need to get in contact with some people and hope they have the rest of the stuff I am looking or me and the rest of my team. Once all are decks are set we will be playing pretty much every weekend we can. Even if there entry fees have to come out of my own pocket

Hayamachop said:

Geographically yes, but it's so much easier to take a 3 hour plane ride on a 4 day trip to gencon that we can plan 6 months in advance that it is to just up and decide to go to Rochester. 6 hours there and 6hours back = more than a simple day trip. It will most likley mean day up, hotel over night, Game, another hotel over night, and then 6 hours back. Add to that the cost of gas, wear on car, taking off work, etc, and Gencon is most likley more finacially feasable to most people than for us to take a jaunty stroll up to Rochester. With Gencon there are 24 hour things to do, new products to try, promos to grab that resell on ebay, etc.

At the end of the day I have had Gencons that have quite literally paid for themselves, some that have turned a profit, and could do them without jepordizing my carrer because I could plan vacation days around them.

Hell I can barely make it to the Jersey tourneys in one days time, and that usually means I need to wake early in the morning just to get there, play in the event, and then most likley get home at 2 in the morning.
