OSD Evade

By DarthBadger, in Star Wars: Armada

Why/how can something that size get/have an Evade token?

Perhaps it is a quick boost to the shields as much as a rabid jink?

game-wise, probably a title

fluff-wise, agreed with Amanal that it's a shield thing. Easier to simply bat away the few shots that hit it from long range, whereas at closer range it becomes less effective.

Evades can represent the capacity to drop down and deflect a hit.

Sensor jamming!! We have strong evidence from the movies that star destroyer used jamming as a primary tactic so it would make sense that from long range when you are getting jammed you have less of a chance to hit but as you get closer manually controlling the weapons overcomes the inaccurate fire cause by a jammed computer

Interesting. Thanks folks

Also consider that ships in space can roll. While that may not seem like much, when a shot comes in at a certain angle, sometimes the difference of degrees can make all the...um...difference.

That could be the evasive maneuver referred to.

"He's listing gently to the left"

"He knows a few manoeuvres".

More like since it is so far away doing evasive maneuvers can make it difficult for gunners to hit. So just shaking to the left straight then left again or switch it to the right makes it hard for gunners to get a bead on the target. That is why it gets less effective as the ship gets closer. It is easier for the gunners to lead. Long range cancels a single dice, mid range re rolls a dice so it may cancel a dice or turn a crit into a hit or turn a hit into a double. close range is nothing at all other than absorb accuracy roles.

Evade is not something I would have given to the ISD. It doesn't match my idea of them.

I agree, it does not seem to really "fit"

Given that we have seen that the ISD-I does not have a natural Evade defense token, I'd give a 90% chance that the ship comes with an officer, or more likely, a defensive refit that provides the given ship with an Evade via some kind of electronic warfare.

If the ISD-II has more red/blue dice instead of blacks, then it is going to be one crazy bruiser at range with an Evade on top of everything else.

I have no idea how blaster on blaster impacts work, but maybe the ISD could be intercepting shots at long range with some sort of counter-weaponry

Always figured the evade was some form of natural electronic countermeasures. Not just being able to Yank the yoke hard. Honestly given the size of the ships it would even be difficult for a CR90 to "dodge" much of anything.

a Cr-90 could just be moving too fast to pin possibly, but I'd agree it's nigh impossible to see anything bigger (dat Afmk2) swerving around incoming fire like it's an A-wing for something

That was pretty much my reason for the post.

But like I said, there have been some neat suggestions/justifications.

At long range, the ISD's shields work like a glacis plate.

Hey, it's as scientific and sensible as every other part of the setting, isn't it?
