Banhammer. The simplest way to fix fat turrets (and the meta)

By KineticOperator, in X-Wing

It's a simple idea really. Every time a list wins a Regional, National, or Worlds level event FFG just bans the all of the ships and upgrades in the winning list. Pretty soon, we will have a perfectly balanced meta, where no list can dominate the top tables.

Of course that is because no lists would be legal, but no plan is perfect...

I think that the difference in scope between regionals and worlds imply that we need to banhammer the entire top 8 at worlds. Otherwise, regionals become overpowered in the ban-meta.

Why not a real hammer :(?

I'd like to see c3po evade a wide swing...

I vote for HWKs and Shuttles as the only ships that can be played by each faction. Perfect meta right there.

Click baited by Kinetic, I thought I'd never see the day :P

Just make it so only 10 pilots can be banned at a time. When new ones get banned, the old ones fall off the banlist.

And if you don't keep up with the weekly banlist posting and bring an illegal list to a tournament you have to not play and scorekeep for everyone else at the tournament.

Why not a real hammer :(?

"We seem to be made to suffer. It's our lot in life."

BanWING , thats the term you want to use not banhammer BanWING

"We seem to be made to suffer. It's our lot in life."

And then after it's happened, r2d2 takes up the mantle.

"Cone back here r2! You don't know how to break the falcon. Chewbacca can do it! I'm laying here in pieces and you're having dellusuons of grandeur!"

R2d2 then wins worlds again

"You did it!"

R2d2 then gets the hammer

"...we're doomed"

I think local bans for local tournament wins is also a really great idea. People who win tournaments should not be able to use a single card that gave them or anyone else a win, ever.

Ban? No.

Paul Heaver would somehow optimize his last to ensure he places ninth.

The thing would be as easy as not allowing any small or large ship to cost more than 60 points, this would prevent fat turrets lists

Peace and blessings be upon him.

I have a better idea!

Ban everything that doesn't make it into the top 8!

"You were supposed to bring balance to the meta, not leave it in darkness!"

Are you saying the way to deal with a lack of variety is to reduce the pool of available pilots and upgrades after every tournament?

"You were supposed to bring balance to the meta, not leave it in darkness!"

Not exactly the chosen one right?

I give you Anikinthrusters.

Personally the best way to produce a balienced meta is to spilt it into two, smaller formats.

Full xwing

Standard ships only.

Turrets thenselves are not inherently unbalienxed, but huge ships themselves bring a whole new expectation to the meta and rule out certain lists. The best thing to do is remove the damage sponges and just have a format of dogfights.

MOV is what takes a massive, steaming dump on the meta.

Two ship lists will hold points hostage simply because they are highly survivable and dominate because they are incredibly evasive, regenerative or are able to mitigate damage to near-pointlessness. If we got rid of MOV and just left it to Win-Lose-Draw ratios, we'd see things like four-ship and TIE Swarm pop up again and we'd have a much healthier, diverse meta because victory will only be declared if you've completely annihilated the enemy list, the way 100-point death match should be. People wouldn't slow play or play keep-away-til-time anymore because the draw will bring their record down, turrets aren't nerfed because they don't need a nerf and people will feel more confident in taking not-turrets.

Nerfing turrets in a competitive system that uses MOV as ranking/placement factor is only detrimental to the diversity of the game, turrets themselves are not detrimental at all.

Banning is dumb

Some people pay good money for that.

Fel-wing sounds worse than current X-Wing.
