Bow and Long bow

By Hwij, in Battlelore

Hail... I want to make an observation about the bows. How it is possible the range of common bows to be same with the range of long bows?

In battlelore common bows and long bows have up to 4 hexes range..

It would be more realistic the range of common bows to be up to 3 hexes. What do you say?

Long bows gain the benefit of hitting on Bonus Strikes whereas common bows only hit on banner color.

I think this is an acceptable choice rather than having to go back and replace a core rule.

I think the long bow doesn't allow you to collect lore though while the regular ones do.

Actually, I think both bows allow you to collect lore in a standard game. While playing Epic, no ranged attacks allow you to collect lore. (If I remember correctly).

No lore collected by the long bows (nor the Arbalestiers, nor reflex bows [ostrich riders]) in any game, but yes, no range fire at all collects lore in the epic games.

I think it is acceptable that the long and common bows have the same range, yet the longbows hit twice as potently. Making the range rules more complicated (changing the range, negatively graduating the dice as the distance increases, etc) can certainly be done to find the level of "accuracy" one would like, however I feel that the rules fit nicely as is.

I agree that the rules as they are, are just fine. I wouldn't want to do a lot of math while playing Battlelore. Keep it Simple!
