Do I understand Astrid? Probably not - All Astrid

By MarcoPulleaux, in UFS Deck Building

So, blah, I've been thinking about Astrid. How does she work? Does she seriously mill the hell out of herself?

So I just threw stuff together into a pile, and here is the result:

Astrid

Characters: 4

4x Astrid** 6/6 +0-MID

Assets: 8

2x Valkynsverd 2/5 +3-MID [Weapon] [unique]
2x Path of the Master 2/5 +2-MID [unique]
2x Wonderworld Comics 2/5 +3-LOW [Terrain]
2x Reaver's Axe 2/4 +2-HIGH [Weapon] [unique]

Attacks: 20

4x Odin's Wrath 8/3 +2-MID [Astrid Desperation: 6]
4x Astrid's Wolf Strike 5/3 +1-MID
4x Tyr's Warding Smash 4/3 +1-HIGH
4x Razor's Bite 3/3 +2-MID
4x Pommel Smash 3/3 [stun: 1]

Foundations: 48

4x Paying Respects to Your Ancestors 3/5
4x Genius Alchemist 2/5
4x Queen's Champion 2/5
4x Body of Souls 2/5
4x Controller of Souls 2/5
4x Determined 2/4 +2-MID
4x Resourceful 2/4 +3-MID [Weapon]
4x Researching the Past 2/4
4x Relentless 2/4 [Weapon]
4x Bloodied but Unbowed 2/4
4x Hunt for Jin 1/5 +2-LOW
4x Envoy of the Queen 1/5 +3-LOW [Weapon]

So yeah, 80 cards of awesome. Why am I ok with 80? Because the deck has so much retarded draw and mill that it shouldn't matter.

The general idea is to, duh, not be a Fire Astrid, but also to attempt to abuse what All can do that Fire cannot, which is extreme controlled draw.

Researching the Past is fkking broken in this deck, with Razor's Bite being wicked ass tech. RTP can tutor things for Wonderworld, Valkynsverd + Path, Paying Respects, Queen's Champion, Controller of Souls, Relentless, and Hunt for Jin.

All gives me a lot more omniscient control over what I draw which allows for a lot more flexibility. All may not nearly be as aggressive as Fire, but I will have better access to my weapons when I need them for overall spammage. That, and with controlled draw I can have better discard (review step, blocking, etc) to keep the E up. Also, almost half the deck has weapon on it :)

Anyways, I hate Astrid, but I figured I'd give her a whirl. How's it lookin?

I think your deck needs to get down to 75 cards.

I think you need to learn to number cards in your deck, i.e. differentiate between the need for 4X, 3X, and 2X. Simply put, some of your foundations can easily be 3X, some of your attacks can be 3X, some of your assets shouldbe 3X or even 4X.

The ability to discern between running a playset and something else (1, 2, 3) is the ability to discern between the 'star' cards in your decks, and the 'supporting cast', the former always useful, the latter sometimes useful.

I also think that you building All Astrid after bashing it in another thread with few words is 'funny'. But yes, All has stuff going for it that Fire does not. Does fire have more variety, yes there are more cards, does fire have what All has? no. Does All have what fire has? obviously no, fire has more to begin with.

I will address specific cards in your deck time permitting, as I too have been brainstorming about what my next deck will be - and it will be an All character. Not Astrid...

Dude where is Bloodline rebeliion? In my eyes its really the only reason to run Astrid off of ALL instead of FIRE

Well said.

I am interested in your individual card descriptions.

It's not that I need to learn what cards need what numbers, rather, this is a "here's rough draft, please, by all means, help me and/or dissect it."

I'm not familiar with Astrid, so I'm just going off of how I'm assuming she would work in play, which is to have so much draw and self-discard (Envoy) that 80 would go through quickly.

I'm me; of COURSE I'd build All Astrid after verbally knocking it =D. But also, it's more to be different, less a political statement. I had said All Astrid wouldn't work only because Fire Astrid works better, and well, which do you want? A deck that might work, or a deck that does? All Astrid simply does not have the aggressive potential that Fire does, which sucks since Fire Astrid is stupid fast and aggressive.

But yes, please tell me some things. To be honest, I'm not sure I'd build this, because as much as I love interesting and fun, new decks, Astrid just doesn't seem to be me.

As for Bloodline Rebellion, I feel I have enough tutor. Sure, I can potentially discard 4 weapons...but Envoy discards 5, doesn't destroy itself, and doesn't have a 3 difficulty. While Bloodline does add a weapon to my hand, so does almost any other card in this deck.

At first i was all for Bloodline in astrid and even wanted to try and build her off of order just to see if i could work it...and to abuse cursed blood, but it does destroy itself for an effect you can get from other cards. If there was weapons that you could run that were Tekken 6 then id say sure but there just isnt so your looking at a black second ability
