Which Scum Firespray is stronger with IG88B?

By Shirako, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Finalizing for regionals tomorrow, the IG build is HLC, LW, Dampeners, Adv. Sens,

Firespray Build is VI, Gunner, Dampeners, EU...I think that's it but I feel like I'm forgetting something. My question is is Kath or Boba stronger here? Is PS10 really that important?

Depends on how much PS9 you expect to face. If you're thinking VI, I feel Boba suits that EPT better. Kath would prefer PtL or Predator, imo.

It really depends on what you want to face

from what little I've seen of the matchup (personally don't touch 2-ship builds outside of armada) it seems that your single greatest opponent in the 2-ship vs 2-ship is Rebel Captive Chiraneau. Stressed Aggressors are unhappy aggressors :(

Therefore, you need a higher PS firespray (no problem) that doesn't mind getting stressed that much.

My guess would therefore be Boba with PTL (you'll need it for non-chiraneau opponents), recon or k4, and EU. Boba's ability + recon alone make him a very chewy target, so he won't always need to PTL in order to trade favorable against the rear admiral.

I'm just worried about boba not putting out enough firepower in 2 ship vs 2 ship games, this meta is seems like you better be throwing 4 red dice per attack or get out. That's why I'm not a huge fan of dropping gunner but it could work with rec-spec instead. It'd also give me a 2 point initiative bid...

If we're conceding the pilot skill war by dropping Boba to a 8 what does he stack up against right now...Corran and VI Aggressors. If we go to a 7 with Kath she loses to those, and ties the likes of Keyan, and non VI Dash, but gain an extra shot in the rear arc. Does this allow for significant bait and switch with kath blasting through and getting chased while IG slow rolls it in?

Kath hits hard, but can do down really fast. The firespray will be the first target unless you dangle iggy in front the first few rounds (which doesn't actually seem like that bad of a plan when I think about it, 4 shields with 3 agil AT can take it). Kath caps at ps9, so dealing with fel can be difficult. Boba gets ps10, so you can ignore the initiative bid altogether.

I prepped both for a tourney list, but in the end I chose Boba for survivability. Ultimately the night before I decided to drop the firespray all together and go brobots instead because it was more fun, but that's besides the point. Then I lost against a iggyB/Boba list near identical to the one I was prepping

Care to share your IGB/Boba Variant?

Also since it is assumed the Firespray will be the primary target, would it be advisable to drop gunner for something more defensive like a recspec? If I'm going more defensive on Boba should I additionally upgrade VI to PTL for maximum survivability with the option to boost and get 2 focus, or 2 focus and an evade?

Boba's Killer Robot

IG-88B (36)

Push the Limit (3)
Advanced Sensors (3)
"Mangler" Cannon (4)
Autothrusters (2)

Boba Fett (Scum) (39)
Veteran Instincts (1)
Proton Bombs (5)
Recon Specialist (3)
Engine Upgrade (4)

Total: 100

I don't remember exactly, but the list that bested me has IggyB + VI + FCS + HLC + AT, Boba + VI + Tac + ProBomb + EU. I think that's short a few points

That is an interesting point, I don't have a flechette cannon to slap on the firespray and keep VI to fill the 2 points to give me some options when it comes to control...Currently my list has no control, which is a little concerning seeing as I'm expecting to see a lot of Dash + Corran...maybe drop the Gunner for Tactician and go to PTL? That seems halfway in between damage built and survivability built firespray, and I feel like half a**ing it wouldn't be as productive on offense as it could be and additionally not as survivable.

That'd be your call really. VI is pretty much ONLY for Fel and Whisper. PTL would be a lot more fun.

I figure I'm flying a big honking gunship anyway, any interceptor pilot worth his salt will be able to position himself favorable regardless of who goes first
