Which objectives are you -not- using?

By Norsehound, in Star Wars: Armada

In my share of games so far there have been a few objectives passed in front of me that I don't see myself ever picking over the alternatives. Minefield is one example... why give so much obstacle placement power to the opponent if they choose something benign like Contested outpost?

So I was curious to ask which objectives you guys feel you've been passing over so much that they never get played?

I find Minefields to be perfectly acceptable to play. It's not like they really create a barrier that you can't navigate around. Also, take an engineering command and watch your opponent's mouth drop when you run over the mine and promptly fix the damage in the very next round.

I guess Fire Lanes is one I haven't played around with too much, mostly because I'm a bit fuzzy on what it's supposed to represent.

My Rebels sure won't pick the Outpost as an Objective.

never go full outpost (as rebs)

advanced gunnery is also generally a pretty big no no :P

the blue objectives are usually the least of the available evils

A rebel jousting list can do extremely well on outpost.....it wants to know where the Imps are going to be. I recommend going second in that situation. :)

I need to know of this rebel jousting list :o

although I took it from the OP that we're talking about objectives you never pick if you have the option (so you were given initiative)

I did not mean to dismiss Contested Outpost if you're building your objectives, just playing against it

another question: which of the objectives can you not understand due to obtuse wording? =( for me its like 4 or 5 of them.

exactly 0

sometimes I get objective tokens confused with victory tokens (such as in minefields) but that's just me

If you want to, you can shut down a good chunk of the board by concentrating obstacles and mines in a grid there. Or, well, you can also do what you're saying and just eat the hits, but you are going to take hits.

Just wait for the large bases...

Also, you're assuming you don't get a really nasty crit. Yeah, you have an engineering dial. Shame you picked up the card the halves your engie value. Or, shame you picked up the card that deals damage whenever you reveal a dial. Or, discard one of your defense tokens. Or, shame you lost all your shields in one zone. Or, shame you lost one shield in each of two zones.

You get two blue dice per mine straight to the hull, so you're running a non-trivial risk of seriously weakening your ship before the shooting starts.

I can't see ever wanting to be first player in advanced gunnery. If I wants that for a ship, I would just put a gunnery team on it.

I've never used Most Wanted in any fleet. Doesn't appeal to any of my builds.

No experience with Fire Lanes (but plenty of Camp the Station). Haven't used it - never played against it.

I made that mistake when Salvation was on the board.

I wear the scars proudly. :P

For red objectives I tend to use Advanced Gunnery if I'm running the Assault Fatty as a gunboat, or Precision Fire if I have a lot of fighters. Most Wanted I don't see the point of unless you're running a LOT of little ships (like the Seven Corvette list I saw the other day), and Opening Salvo is...okay? It's not terrible, but I find the others to be more useful/more fun.

Yellow I go with Hyperspace Assault if I'm fielding B-Wings in any real number, since it makes my opponent double take or Fire Lanes if I'm fielding a LOT of fighters since they can just park themselves on an objective to get me points. Outpost I never play against Imps and Fleet Ambush just seems like I'm giving Imps the opportunity to bring their VSD just that much closer to me.

Blue is my weakest objective for sure, and I don't really care for well, any of them. Dangerous Territory is pretty inoffensive, although I guess as a rebel I should try Intel Sweep with a Corvette as my objective ship. Minefields seem like a good way to get locked into Heads-up with the Imps, which I don't want and after one (Horrible) experience with Superior Positions that involved 100 points of TIE/F's and TIE/INT's that were always sniping for one damage point chances on my Caps...no. Never again.

Gunnery Team can't target the same ship twice. At least being first player in Advanced Gunnery you are allowed to target the same ship, as long as the targets are different hull zones.

Holy crap, how did I never catch that before? Going to have to make sure everyone at the LGS knows that too.
