Warning about quality of the plastic stands!

By All Shields Forward, in Star Wars: Armada

So I was just getting my Armada to play and found that every single stand has warped!! Even ones without ships on them. The quality of the bases is excetionally low, and I advice against having them in your car for anytime beyond going to and fro from the game store this summer.

I'm now out two starters and one each of the expansions...

Do a barrel roll!!!!

Any idea what the inside temp of your car was? Summer is coming up and anyone using plastic miniatures shouldn't keep them in the car anyway.

Sadly I don't. Normally I am adverse to leaving stuff in my car, but today I was planning to play after work.

At least I can take some sweet action shots with them.

By the Emperor, take evasive action!!

summer heat and cars are a very bad combination for plastic miniatures. Every time without fail when i have left plastic miniatures in a car for extensive amount of time, more than 7 hours there have always been some type of warping. Sometime just a bit other times pretty bad. Looks like you got the pretty bad end, sorry about that. This Is a perfect example on why FFG should have the stands available for purchase.

"Hold on! I know a few maneuvers!"

Man, give that victory captain an evade token!

If your gonna leave your miniatures in the car for any period of time use the trunk. It is usually cooler for most cars. If it is a truck or the trunk has windows your f**ked.

I wouldn't conclude that the quality of the bases are low. You left them in extreme conditions without anticipating a common problem!

On the bright side:

- If you have basic hobby skills you should be able to salvage your fleet with some brass rod.

- Now that we know the base plastic is susceptible to heat-warping I bet people could come up with some cool formations for their squadrons.

"Evasive manoeuvres NOW!"

Give that VSD captain a commendation man!

I will take responsibility for leaving them in the car, however none of the plastics of the car, or even the tiny antennes on the victories and Ned show any warpage.

The title of this post should be warning about the quality of OP's judgement...

Wow. I've never had any problems with plastic figs left in the car as long as they were out of direct sunlight.

Where are you located and what has the temp been like there the past week?

You say the quality of the bases is really low. I say the quality of the sun is really high.

i think some ppl are being a little hard on the OP, are these miniatures not shipped in huge metal containers across the pacific ocean to San Diego which i believe is a pretty hot place, i would expect these pricey objects to be able to withstand the heat of a car in the sun.

Over a decade and a half I've never had problems until this! They looked sturdy too. The Armada bases ARE pretty thick. Which is why I'm so surprised and think a warning to others is worth it.

I had them in the trunk away from direct sunlight. I don't have a window where I work so wasn't aware of just how hot it really was.

I should try some stop motion videos!

well I would totaly be willing to trade for the mega warped victory stand if you where in sydney australia, that thing is bad arse...

Man! The lowest temp plastic used is usually polystyrene, which has a melting point of 240C and a glass transition temp of about 100C. Your car must have approached or exceeded ~100C!!!!!

For this price, they should be using HIPS-modified PS or better, but I am guessing the demand for crystal clarity makes PS the best choice. Acrylate may be too brittle.

Why do you leave your ships ON the bases? Or did they melt without them on them? Maybe FFG will replace them if you ask? I would not expect this either.

@Akenatum: Wait six months (it being winter here) and leave your stuff in the car, 40-50 degrees celcius will help. :D

Definitely contact FFG and see if they can help you.

Both. Some were on the bases in the starter boxes to save space, but even the ones disassembled warped. I'm waiting to get some extra deep plano for their permanent storage arrangment.

I plan to ask, and I agree, never expect to get replacements.
