Close enough for Imperial work: quick & dirty squadrons

By DiabloAzul, in Star Wars: Armada

I have very little painting experience, and certainly none at this scale, so I was terrified of doing up my squadrons (one core set, one Rebel pack, three Imperial packs). My work and travel schedule also don't leave me a lot of time, which doesn't help. But, as it turns out, it's extremely easy to get results that look decent on the table (provided you don't look too closely) in a very short time.

These took me a total of two afternoons, using nothing but sharpies and Army Painter ink:

Obviously this is very basic stuff, but I hope it encourages those who, like me, are concerned that they lack the time, skill and/or materials to improve the looks of their fleet.

They do look quite nice, especially the fighters! :)

You say you did that with sharpies? Phenomenal.

Gotta say, those are pretty impresive looking. I like the red stripe on one of the VSD's; I may have to 'borrow' that idea for one of my Victory's to make it stand out a bit from the others.

Looking to painting my VSDs in Sukhoi colours

Those look pretty good! I really like the fighters and anyone can do that with no painting experience needed

Fantastic work. Did you primer the fighters and if so, how?

You said you did that with sharpies? Like normal sharpies or was it paint pen sharpies?

How do you get the inside of the TIE/Adv wings? Having trouble getting the marker to put down ink at such an extreme angle.

Boy-howdy is that good. Excellent work. That's quite the steady hand.

That one's the trickiest, of course. But the technique is the same as for the T/I: you just need to hold each T/A against the table on its side, paint the inside of the wing that's flat on the table, then turn the model to a new orientation. You won't be able to reach the upper central part of the wings, only the fore and aft ends. But that's OK, because you can't really see the rest at all.

I realise this is not very clear; I'll try to post pictures later!

Wow. Sharpies are the way to go I guess, because these are the best Armada fighters I've seen yet.

You should write a guide to Sharpie Armada fighters.
