call me crazy, but i dont want more new ships

By churchwarden, in X-Wing

I agree that I'd prefer they not release any more obscure EU ships (which aren't canon anymore...for now). I rather they start using the plethora of canon ships from the prequels, clone wars, and rebels, and then eventually the spin offs and possibly the sequels as well.

Aces packs are fine, but make too many and you have lots of extra ships just sitting around. All you're using is the cards, and deciding which model to fly.

FYI if you haven't noticed, the game isn't canon.

BUT WE NEED THE CLAWCRAFT BEFORE PREQUEL SHIPS (which are unlikely since they stated that is to far back into the timeline, although we might see the V-wing as a scum ship?)

Please please please no prequel crap!.... I'd even take that awful clawfoot thingy over prequel junk.

Indeed, the prequel stuff leaves me colder than obscure eu stuff.

cant say im sold on the clawcraft.

Its not that good looking , i'd much rather see a missile boat first.

Who owns the licensing rights for the KOTOR ships? Or does it really matter in a miniatures game?

it matters a lot.

2nd edition battletech came with a lot of plastic models of the 'then' most popular mechs like the warhammer, javelin, archer etc..

They were all total rip offs of robotech designs and they got away with it for years until they replaced the card counters with 3d plastics, then the IP owners in japan got proper samurai about it and called for a cease and desist.

FASA then had to redesign all the models they had pinched the look of.

So yeah you kind of want to make sure you own the IP before making something as expensive as injection moulded plastics.

They have got a lot cheaper but it used to cost a fortune to have the steel molds cut.

it matters a lot.

They were not ripoffs fasa thought they had the rights as they paid license fees but later discovered that harmony gold held the international rights.

Harmony gold is pretty infamous when it comes to patient trolling they never use their rights to make new robotech films but will threaten legal action at the drop of a hat.

They are also the reason the Japanese studio can't release macros stuff outside Japan.

So no fasa were not trying to do anything shady.

Unlike GW trying to sue people for using space marine when they don't even own the rights to it.

I imagine it's LFL. The rights to stuff in those games was surely still owned by LucasArts at the point that Disney acquired them.

I stand corrected then. I was told that FASA just didnt have the rights and that they'd just got away with it for a long time.

Cheers for clearing that up.

It still stands though that making plastics unless you're *sure* you have the rights to the IP is a really bad move and can ruin you financially.

Harmony gold is despised by the btech community, they are pretty slimy.

Please please please no prequel crap!.... I'd even take that awful clawfoot thingy over prequel junk.

Are you referring to my Beautiful Clawcraft? Because if you are, well mister.... you better keep a shotgun under you pillow :D :D

He does but it's filled with rock candy.

So now that we are quite off topic. That clawfoot is unknown to me, where is it from? My star wars knowledge is dated, and based primarily on the original trilogy (hated the prequel movies), the book "star wars the essential guide to vehicles and vessels", the games tie fighter and x wing, and some older novels (zahn trilogy)........ Ugh..... I hate myself for saying this.........

If ffg made gun boat or missile boat.... I would buy.

Now I'm gonna have to take my shotty filled with rock candy and do myself in!

*BLAM* Congratulations, you're a diabetic.

The only reason the Punisher and Kwing are being added is to give us Extra Munitions, Twin Ion Engines, and the Double Laser Turret, while charging us for 2 more ships.

Wow, is reads like not many people here have played Epic format with Huge ships much.

The Punisher and K-wing are heavy ordinance ships, Hello, which happen to be good against Huge ships.

This means support for both standard and epic formats. I for one like the direction they are heading in.

The Y-wing was not a sluggish fighter overall, as its speed and agility exceeded that of its intended replacement, the B-wing, but its slack of mobility meant that the Y-wing was not effective as a space superiority fighter. When properly used by such commanders as General Grisserno and Horton Salm, Y-wings would accelerate towards their capital ship targets, relying on their gunners and wingmates in X-wing starfighters and A-wing interceptors to distract enemy fighters and the enemy ships' gunners. This would allow the Y-wings and B-wings to focus their fire on capital ships. This tactic was similar to the A-wing Slash, which involved solely X-wings and A-wings.

The K-wing starfighter's primary missions included precision bombing of planetary targets, slow-moving capital ships, and spaceborne installations. It also performed secondary missions as an escort or reconnaissance ship.

While I'm at it:

Lonely Five

Sitra piloted [Lonely Five] in many air and space battles alongside the bravest star pilots in the Rebel Alliance, who fought alongside her in their X-wing and Y-wing starfighters.

Arc170_pair.jpg

During the Galactic Civil War, ARC-170s could be found in both Imperial and Rebel fleets, where they were considered elite craft.

One old ARC-170 was found in an old secret hangar of the Rebel Alliance on the planet Dathomir. The Wookiees Imarrra and Orrekazzapirr took this ARC-170 after they had been freed from the Imperial prison facility and managed to punch a hole through the Imperial blockade around the planet.

N1topview.jpg

Although their technology was outdated by the time of the post-Clone Wars era, N-1s remained in use for many years, even as late as between 2 BBY and 0 BBY, where several N-1s owned by a Rebel Alliance cell on Naboo were used against Lucrehulk-class battleships and Vulture droid fighters sent to Naboo by an unknown party. In 4 ABY, they flew across the skies of Theed during an uprising against the Empire. Some were seen in use by the Rebel Alliance and Rebel sympathizers.

Everyone has their own tastes, but I would urge you to look past the prequel movie origins of the ARC 170 and V-Wing to see if you can find the beauty of the aesthetic of the ships themselves. I kinda love them both.

Also, along those lines, I'd point out that Disney is rapidly downplaying the prequel movies in favor of the "clone wars era". Basically the same time period. Except that Clone Wars is _good_. Not perfect, but nothing is. The Clone Wars is the real deal Star Wars in a way the prequels were not. Highly recommend to any fan.

It bugs the **** out of me that R2 has to take his legs off to fit in that Naboo starfighter.

The arc is fugly, the eta is a ripoff of the tie fighter and the v-wing has no impact because you see it escorting a shuttle and never in combat.

I can't even fathom why ships that do so precious little inspire such rabid fandom, Disney knows the public don't like the prequels, ffg knows their customers mostly hate the prequels so adding them would please only the smallest fraction of players and lead to a backlash from the rest.

I know for some poor devils they were the first star wars you saw but that does not change the fact they are bad films not just by star wars standards but by any standard, for fans of star wars phantom and clones were like getting gut punched and revenge was the boot stamping on our heads.

The prequels are a wound that's fostered for fifteen long years, now Lucas isn't in charge we might finally let it scar over, you prequel lovers need to stop rubbing salt into the wound.

I sort of agree that the prequels were poor star wars films and the desgin of most the stuff leaves me cold (naboo fighter, padmes ship, droid ships etc etc)

I do like the Arc and V wing though and think there is room for them in pirate forces.

I seem to recall in some of the later comics that are still just at the end of the GCW like 'crimson empire' that the imperial remnants are using V wings as they are still there in remote outposts and mothballed.

(in the same way in the real world the soviet union never sold anything obsolete off, they just stored it for reservists and in case it might be needed in emergencys... im pretty sure there are still stockpiled platoons of T54s somewhere in the Urals :) )

I think i meant the gunboat... the cool looking one thats in Tie Fighter.

The claw thingy doesnt really say 'star wars' to me, its like a babylon 5 ship with a tie cockpit.

We're still friends though :)

(unless you're blackballing me over the clawcraft lol!)

The Clawcraft* (not Clawfoot), is a Chiss design. The Chiss are notorious for being ingenious engineers, and Thrawn managed to get Palpatine to trade technology with the Chiss, and the Chiss designed the Clawcraft, as their primary attack fighter

The squashed lambda is a hair better than the "Naboo Royal Boat" :D :D, but I still find it utterly appalling. I like the Clawcraft because it's different, but not that different. It has the signature cockpit, but it has a different feel that doesn't scream, "hey we're the empire, all our ships look the same!"

I don't particularly care for the prequels. But I love almost all the ships from the prequels.

So Rub-rub-rub.

Also: If you watch the scene where Anakin and Obi-Wan "rescue" Palpatine, there are V-Wings flying around outside like schools of fish. Violent, angry, laser-spewing fish.

I sort of agree that the prequels were poor star wars films and the desgin of most the stuff leaves me cold (naboo fighter, padmes ship, droid ships etc etc)

Probably in Ukraine. At the time of the fall of the Soviet Union, the salt mines in Eastern Ukraine were filled with millions of guns (from small arms to cannon), billions (or trillions) of rounds of ammunition... there are probably T-34s in them!

Rebel aces II (Heroes of Yavin) wish list:

X-wing and Y-wing in alternate colors (based on actual models from the film)

Kayan Farlander in Y-wing

Tiree and Pops (please give these guys EPTs!)

R3 generic droids that give BR or something good

Rookie one in x-wing

Rogue squadron title either for Rogue Leader or for generics giving EPT or discount on mods

Dak, Zev and John D (Zev needs an EPT slot for sure)

Torpedo upgrade for X wing that gives system slot.

R-22 spearhead title that gives out of arc firing (represents swivel cannons) for A-wings

Dunno what I would want in Imperial Aces II (Defenders of the Empire) except blue TIE fighters and titles for:

/gt (bomb and missile slot, attack dice one)

/fc (TL, holds two TLs and can give them to others)

/rc (hands out focus tokens like candy)

/ln (rerolls on one attack die)
